How many quarts of oil?

I just changed the oil in my car (335xi) and I put in 7 quarts. When I bought oil from the dealership the guy said that it takes just over 7 quarts so I bought 8. After putting in the 7 quarts I turned on the car and checked the oil level and it shows that it's good. If I was off by 1/2 of a quart would it tell me? Does anyone know the exact amount we're supposed to put in?

Without actually searching, I'm pretty sure I remember 7 quarts being just about perfect, if not slightly extra (negligible). So you're fine...I just pour in 7, check the reading, and drive. Did he say over 7 quarts or 7 liters?

I think he said like 7.3 quarts or something similar. I tried looking in the manual and it is incredibly vague. It basically says take the car to the dealer for an oil change.

When I did my oil change I kept thinking I didn't put enough in cause the iDrive said I didn't. The solution was to drive around for about 10min so that it could get a proper reading... I miss the dipstick!

The correct answer is 7. Don't underfill.

would 1/2 qt over fill cause any issues? I just added oil but no change in display, worst case I'm 1/2 over. I have no trust in the oil level indicator l guess I'll have to replace soon.

5K since oil change

Never hurts to over fill by a 1/4 especially if you tend to drive your car hard. But under fill is a bigger concern than over. 1/2 over is pushing it a bit. A whole quart over is asking for problems

It really is. You can read up all you want about how to please a woman, you can look at all the diagrams in the world, but just like the clitoris, you won't know what the hell an apex is before you actually find it.
