2007 E90 - iPod/USB question

Hey guys, I just bought my first BMW (2007 328i) a few days ago! I have the standard AUX port, but not the 6FL USB option. I know there are a few options for iPod and/or USB control to the system and am trying to decide which way to go.

I do have a question; if I don't have a CD changer installed, but do have the cable that connects to the CD changer and option "0694 - CD changer preparation" listed as an option on my car, will I still need dealer programming if I go with an iPod solution that acts as the CD changer, or will it be a plug-and-play solution?
