Denison install e92 glovebox
Ok, I've searched and searched and searched and just can't find the answer I'm looking for.
I've got a dension 500 kit and want to install it in my e92. Car details: E92 2007 Idrive professional No CDC CDC PREP on build sheet. Most installs on the inter-web seem to be a boot install. I don't want this as I intend using my iphone with this for music and charging. So I want the dension installed on the dash area (glovebox or behind stereo) so I can run a cable, easily to the ashtray or armrest console. Are all the cables I need (ie) cdc prep in the glovebox? If so where? I will probably tap into the stereo power cable for an unswitched power source. Will it be easier to just plug the dension directly into the stereo and ignoring the cdc prep? Hope someone can help Cheers 'V' |

Ok,
I've stripped the glove box and got the stereo/nav box out (not the screen) so I can see all the cables I need. On stripping the glovebox I could see 2 optical cables that go nowhere just to a blank connection. I guess this is the CDC connection in the glovebox - but there are no power cables with it I'll post a pic of what I'm looking at |

That's where my Dension was originally connected, just take out one optical lead from that hub & connect the Dension in series - the power & ground cam come from the fuse box in pic 1

Ok cool,
Power and ground - how did you take it from the fuse box? Using an adapter? Oh, did you have The CD changer installed at any point? As I don't have one and I know this makes the install a bit different |

My Dension 500 is installed in the boot, the iPhone 30pin runs through to the glovebox and the USB I have ran into the small cubby hole in the boot.
Next plan is to either carbon wrap or plastidip the grey plastic cubby hole, or paint the USB surround gray to match. I have a ridiculously small 8GB USB flash drive I leave in there. |

Ehfit - can you post a pic of how your dension is connected in the boot?
Don't really want to put mine in the boot as I didn't want to run the cable for my iphone all the way to the front but it looks like it might be an easier install. Did/do you have a CD changer anywhere in the car (glovebox or boot) Thanks 'V' |

Nope, no CD changer but came pre-wired though. The install was done by my brother while I was away at work, he says it was a nightmare of a job. I still need to source a rubber grommet for the glovebox to tidy it up a little. |

Its a lot easier to fit this kit behind the glove box compared to the boot.
you should use the most loop which comes with the kit and make a Y shape loop.

Like the one in the diagram above? I bought this off a fellow forum member so all cables were loose and not in any sort of hoop, so I've made the 'Y' shape like the diagram above
What's the best way to get power and earth in the glovebox area? Tapping into wires for power/earth or using a fuse adapter for power and one of the grounding points? If the fuse adapter is the best way, which one should I use for an unswitched source? Just trying to get all the details before doing the install to make the process quick and painless Last edited by 'V'; 04-08-2014 at 11:51 AM.. |

Y adapter as show in your photo. 1 terminal goes beyond the cic, one to your dension and one goes to the place where you have most loop for the dealer to flash your cic/ ccc.
or you just add another loop behind the cic so that dension is in series. You can tap the power from CIC power source. Most of the installers do that. HTH.

Yep - thanks, already done a dash strip to find everything I need so should be an easy install and I've got a shop round the corner that'll code it for me (Darren woods)
How long does coding it take? |

Very informative as I've got to get mine installed at some point various options are good ideally for me the cable needs to be in the centre arm rest as this is the most convenient place mind you what's the scope for putting the connection into the drop down cubby hole by the drivers knee. I did this with my 330d
