Thanks for the responses. So does the U.S. Spec vehicles get filled with LL-01 before they are shipped? If so, will mixing the oils (LL-01 and LL-04) cause any issues?

Nevermind. I looked at the link you posted and I think I understand what is going on now. You had a lot of the same questions that I did and it looks like I found the answer. So since we took delivery of our cars in Europe and they will be in Europe for the next couple years, we got the LL-04 fill at the factory, correct?

I assume so, yes.

That said, LL01 would work fine with European gas. LL04 should work as well, if not better. LL04's only an issue in the US and other areas with high sulfur gas. Given that your engine is new, I would not expect you to have to add any oil before the first change. Depends if you are going to wait until 18K miles or do it early...

I use Castrol Edge ll04 0-30. Changed every 6000 miles although no need to until 20000 miles or 2 years whatever occurs first.
I change it every 6000 miles because I cannot/ will not believe that this oil stays good for 20000 miles. This high millage was given I am sure so that fleet buyers as in the UK like the lengthy oil change intervals.

Exactly. When has a BMW engine failed due to lubrication failure within the 50K/4yr warranty period? I'd guess never. So sweating the spec is irrelevant. Good synthetic oil, proper viscosity (or at least close), regular change intervals. Now worry about all the stuff that will fail early or should be replaced as a preventive measure. I'm thinking diff fluid, PS fluid, trans fluid (all that "lifetime" stuff.)

If a topic is to ask what type of oil is LL01 approved, then go ahead and voice your opinion.

Why is this post a sticky post? This thread is full of fail, and is feeding the trolls. I am so disappoint.
