favor needed! CD changer trim measurement
I need to ask a favor of someone who has the cd changer trim installed. Can you measure the extra height afforded by this trim? Thanks.

I can do it later. For reference, I have three amps stacked on top of one another (MS-8, 600/6, Alpine MRD M-300) with 1-1.5 inches between each.
That might answer whatever question you are thinking of right there. What ARE you thinking of? |

I have an amp that is too wide to sit flat, so I have it one end. So it is about 9.5 " off a piece of mdf that I have bolted to the car in that spot.
Trying to cover this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=5.2 |

So here is what I can tell you; The CD changer trim rises ~7 inches from the flat part of the trunk floor. Keep in mind the lid is dished so the net space available ABOVE the trunk floor is about 6.5 in. I could not measure DOWN from there because that area is too crowded and I didn't really have good measuring tools as I am away from home.

Just measured my 09' E92 with the CD Changer trim installed.
From the very bottom of the well that the oem amp bracket fastens to, up to the inner surface of the top of the cd changer hump - it's 9-3/4" You would then have to subtract from that dimension the depth of whichever tray you are gonna use. There are (2) versions - a shallow one that is about 1" deep, and a much deeper one... Without the amp and bracket installed, the available space within the cd changer trim for that well area is roughly 9-1/2" wide x 16" long x the 9-3/4" high. There is no room between the fender and the trim where it goes up the rest of the fender above the cd changer hump. So if your amp on end is 9-1/2" (including the mdf), and it is bolted directly to the bottom of the well where the factory amp bracket bolts - it should physically just fit under the trim - but then you would have to do something about the big hole left where the tray snaps in place - because even with the shallow tray - I think it will hit Did you think about mounting the amp laying flat in one of the unused well areas under the removeable trunk floor right behind the rear seat? I guess that is assuming you have an empty well area - my car does not have the Sirius unit - so there is a large area on the DS in this area under the removeable trunk floor available.

Thanks WS6 and Tai for the measurements. I think I am sol on this one. My amp is just a touch over 9.5" wide, so it will not lay flat in the well. And stacked on its side on a 3/4" piece of mdf laying the well it would be over 10" tall. Looks like the trim will be just slightly too low. My other alternative is a new amp! That will fit.

A different bracket may work, I could possibly make it all fit if I mounted the amp on an angle. Is that what you had in mind?
I still have my rear oem speakers, in fact I still have my fronts and underseats as well, all just sitting in my basement. |

I put in BSW mids and tweeters.
I got some measurements on my stock hifi mids and tweeters. mids: 2.9 ohms tweeters: 4.3 ohms and now the odd part, when the tweeters are plugged into the mids, I still get 2.9 ohms for the whole assembly. I would have expected lower, with the mid and tweeter being in parallel, but perhaps the capacitor is acting like a big resistance throwing off this measurement with the meter. |

Thanks!!!!
VP_E measured a base speaker for me yesterday @3.41 ohms, somehow he was able to get his leads downstream of the cap. If you look at the other post for my rear deck speakers, its got a link where he explains impedance with a woofer and tweeter. The resistance only drops where there common frequencies are played....how that affects a multimeter measurement, I don't know. |

I actually was willing to buy some BSW's but they won't sell me just a pair!!
Fools! I won't ask you to pull them out of the deck, but I wish I knew what they measured at! |

Yea you can measure the resistance right across the mid itself, since the amp hooks up right there at the mid, then the tweeter wires with the cap are also connected to the mid, so my measureements should be good, except for the common frequency resistance effect. My tweeter measurement is across the tweeter itself, downstream of the cap.

I actually measured the reistance of the BSW's, mids and tweeters at the speaker wires at my amp connection. Did this when I was trying to set my amp gains, establishing a target voltage. The BSW's installed were 3.1 ohms.

I had an amp that was 9.8" wide mounted diagonally
The bottom was right up against the 2 bolts that hold the oem amp nearer the center of the car And the top was held in place by a plastic mount that hold the wires up top
