Any and all advice requested, but I live in a snowy area and don't want to drop the car much lower than the standard ride height of an i or even an M3.

Also, is there any additional parts required, or just the coils? Do I need to buy bushings, camber kits, etc?

Thanks,
Have an XI myself. Changed out the terrible shocks/springs the second week I bought the car. Springs alone can fix the ride height athstetics, and could even be purchased (custom) so that you have proper matched spring rate for the rather flacid dampers. But the problem of poorly dampened shocks will still be there.

So you have to ask yourself what are you looking for? Asthetics, asthetics and improved handling (fixed system), or the more expensive adjustable system. That will pretty much define the outcome of price and handling.

Have you determined your budget? Will this be a daily driver? Periodic or frequent autocross or lapping?

KW's are all the same. v1 v3 even ST's. The main diff is dampening force adjust-ability. I don't think these 2 really need separate categories as they will ride nearly the same.

Did in the two steps, first the eibach pro springs, but felt the yoyo effect on any dips; second the bilstein hd, stop the yoyo and car stayed planted. Only had thumping over sudden drops or speed over bumps. Overall, a great combo for a dd.

I'm late to the party...helpful thread!

I've been debating this for a while myself. I'm torn between the KW V1s and the Eibach/Bilstein combo. After seeing the picture of Bubba Ho-Tep's setup, I'm leaning toward that solution. It appears that I'd have enough clearance for most of Boston's road issues and winter conditions. As much as I like the idea of height adjustability, I've had several sets of coil-overs over the years and have never bothered going through the hassel of raising/lowering for seasonal conditions (I tend toward conservative drops to deal with lousy roads). Also, I'm wondering how much clearance I'd actually have if I maxed out the height of KW V1s. Even at max height, the V1s lower the stock stance...by how much realistically, I have no idea as I've yet to see a picture of an xi set up as such. Maybe one of you KW owners can help...

@Bubba Ho-Tep - do you have anymore direct side pictures of your car? I'm interested in seeing the wheel and undercarriage gap more clearly.

Thanks - Jason

I have H&R sport springs sitting in my garage, but now considering Eibachs.

Do people just get the Eibach's for the non-xi sedan?

I went with dinan stage 1 suspension (when they had a sale for 15% off) with an m3 rear sway bar. Everyone on here hates dinan and I understand they are pricey but this suspension is amazing! It's springs, Koni rear shocks, smaller bump stops and an rear upper shock mount kit. It transformed the car. Not only does it handle better but it's more comfortable than stock (couldn't believe it but was happily surprised). If dinan isn't for you I'd recommend getting in touch with Harold at hp autowerks. Koni finally came out with front struts for xi's (rear xi suspension is same as i so the rear shocks have been out) but they are only special order for America but Harold is keeping some full sets in stock and I would highly recommend them to pair with whatever springs you choose. Also the m3 sway bar has helped to make the car feel like a rwd car and cut down on that annoying understeer.

^I'm guessing you wouldn't have been sad with more of a drop? 1/2" at all four corners doesn't seem much when you consider how tall the XI's are from the factory.

Well I got my xi used and the suspension was not quite as suv-ish as some I've seen but the drop from the dinan was good for me. Only complaint is the dinan springs keep the front rake a little higher like stock. The car pretty much looks like a normal 335i with sport suspension (maybe a tiny bit lower) which is fine by me. I live in Philly (in the actual city) and like most northeast towns the roads here are absolutely horrendous and I like that I'm not slammed. I can drive over speed bumps and up slanted drive-ways no problem and it looks a lot better than it did. Plus it made the car handle MUCH BETTER which was my #1 priority with looks being second.

TC Kline xi Koni coilover is very new to the market but will yield the same proven performance.

Finally, someone else to back me up!

As the first and only person (that I know of) with the TC Kline c/o's, I feel like I have been the only person arguing how damn good these things are.

As far as I'm concerned, these and the AST's are the only choices for x-drive coilovers!

thanks, I really wish I could experience the improvements of a proper coilover. I guess that is one of the drawbacks of living in a smaller metropolitan area.

Which of the TCK coilovers do you have and is it on your xi?

For daily driving you want KW V1s. For track driving you want KW V3s.

Has KW fixed the squeaking/clunking sound that were prevalent with them a few years ago?

You must have one of the very first custom built kits!

You can't go wrong with TCK, for street or track, this kit can easily handle both.

I'm not sure about that. To me, it makes sense that with more adjustable features come more problems. I haven't had any issues with my V1s.

Cliff Notes: Anyone in NYC with aftermarket suspension mind giving me a quick ride in their car? I would come to you.
