Tree Sap Paint Discoloration

Anyone have a recommendation on how to fix a discoloration mark left by hardened tree sap? The car isn't even two months old and I found a line of hardened tree sap on the passenger side rear door today. I used WD40 to remove it but it left a discoloration mark on the door, the mark can be seen since I have a Jet Black car. Any recommendations on how to remove this? Thanks in advance.
