MS-8 best settings for JL W7, SWS-8s and Morels Hybrid Ovation II
Hi,
I am going to write down the current setup and then would like to mention what I want. I hope that few champions can point me in the right direction. Currect setup: HU (coded to hi-fi) --> MS-8 -->L7 central mid (unamplified) + 6 channels amp --> 2 channels to morel hybrids, 2 channels to under seat MS-8 and 2 channels to rears (L7 mids). So I am using 7 channels on MS-8 and going to use last one for trunk sub (JL W7). Now plan is to add trunk sub and I want to configure followings. 1- Morels and under seats as two way. Morels to play as low as 100Hz (if possible), and SWS-8s to play b/w anywhere b/w 40-100 or 40-120Hz. 2- Trunk sub to play anything below 80Hz. So basically frequencies at 100-120hz will duplicating on morels and SWS-8s. Any frequencies b/w 40-80hz will be duplicating on SWS-8s and JL W7. This is what I am intending to do. I may be completely wrong, but want to have others opinions. I have already read Kaigoss69's thread on how to overcome mid bass. So considering what I have mentioned above, my questions would be; A) What settings should I setup on MS-8? (Morels + SWS-8 as two way fronts) Crossover points, and crossover slopes? B) I would like to know that when we are calibrating MS-8, do we take the rear seat down so trunk sub sound can reach the driver (MS-8 mic) or it does not matter? My concern is that if we calibrate with rear seat down, and then put the seat back, the sound staging and timing would be different due to rear seat now impeding the trunk sub sound. C) Also is it beneficial to set up additional LP filter (as Kaigoss69 mentioned for under seat subs) on amplifier for trunk sub, or leave MS-8 alone to play its role here? I can play with following things, but I would like to know the opinions of seniors here before any trial. Thanks.

You cannot overlap frequencies with the MS-8. This is a bad idea anyway.
Set it up as 2-way front, crossover between 100 and 150 Hz, slope 24 dB/oct. Use the same high-pass and slope for the center and sides/rears. Start with 80Hz, 18dB/oct for the sub. Reverse polarity on the sub (or do the test and see which is better). On the midbass amp, engage the lowpass filter and set it about 20 - 50Hz above the MS-8 crossover frequency. Make sure you level-match all channels (except sub) through "secret" test menu, playing pink noise. Set sub gain to minimum. Calibrate with the seat up, then again with the seat down. See which one you like better. I think there is a benefit to the seats being down, but I'm not 100% sure. My seats don't fold so I cannot do that. I put the sub in the rear seat for calibration. I believe MS-8 "wants" to hear the higher frequencies coming from the sub sweep, which are normally blocked by the seats.

Thanks Kaigoss.
I wonder with sub added to trunk, can I decreased the sub sonic filter to 30-40 now? or may be further down?

Just wondering if somebody can confirm it.
If I am going for sealed box, shall I set sub sonic filter? Can that be skipped on /MS-8? Thanks.

This is the first filter ms8 asks you to set. You cannot skip it. Set it to 20hz 6db/oct.
