Hello All

I'm new to the forum and I'm pulling the trigger on a 2007 335i sedan. Is there anything you all recommend to check out on this. Check that the transmission fluid isn't leaking... I also bough an 07 335i and within a month I found out that the sleeve seals and transmission filter needed replacement due to leak. I did it myself but it was a pain in the ass... Dealer quoted me 900...

Not much you can do really. You can expect......HPFP, injectors, HVAC fan, waste gate rattle and possible turbo. I also had to replace radio and steering hoses, pump and rack. This was all at about 55,000 miles. Beware.

Check for egg shells in the wheel well. Try to see if the ecu area has been tampered with, you don't really want to buy a car that was tuned IMO. When you drive it or rev it, see if there is wastegate rattle. Also during the test drive or something you suddenly hear the fan spinning really loud, the water pump might be on its way out. As for the hpfp, there's no telling that it'll be good or bad unless its already bad at the time of your test drive, in that case the car won't even move or you'll see a CEL on the dash. One last thing, it's good to get a PPI done at a reputable Indy shop specializing in BMWs or a BMW dealer. You also want to get a car with all records so you know the history of the car.

Haha wow that bad? It had the pump done like 10k ago and the injectors looked like they had some attention according to the records.

Yeah so is that meaning 120k on the car or 120k on the pump? So after 120k on the car there is no warranty? I guess is what I'm asking. Also what do injectors and waste gate cost if those issues come?

A lot. 87,000 is a long way. All my stuff was done at 50,000 miles (warranty.) but it would have added up to about $4-5,000 I bet. It was 3 years old....I got rid of it. Got scared.

As a wise person once said, if you can not afford to buy this car new you can not afford it used either.

I bough my 07 new and only have 70K miles, it has all the thing others said to look for replaced under warranty. Most all of that happen prior to 40K miles beyond this the car has been fine, I but I know at some point I will have the $1000 repair coming up if I do not do the work myself.

Also, some '07 models are prone to ecu failure. If the car has the msd81, you're ok. Otherwise, its something else to keep in mind. It's an internal diode issue and it goes without warning. Ask me how I know...

OP, have you ever owned a BMW before? These cars are a bit finicky, and definitely require regular meticulous maintenance. The only way I would buy a high mileage out of warranty N54 would be if I knew the seller personally and had extensive maintenance and service history for the car. My advice would be to look for a car that has at least some remaining warranty (factory or aftermarket). This gives you a chance to get used to the car's quirks and trouble areas without going out of pocket too much for repair items. It also gives you at least a bit of time to bail if the car turns out to be too problematic. 335s are an interesting bunch -- some of them are relatively trouble-free, while others are money pits. Luck of the draw, coupled with the way the car was treated. You don't know how this car was treated, and 87k miles is a lot of time to have been (potentially) neglected or abused. Looking at the ad, it does look like the car was well maintained, but anything can be made to look appealing on paper.

Did anyone else notice in the ad that this car has an LSD? My guess is that it also had other mods at one point or another (just a guess).

It has a nice LSD and winter wheels. It seems the owner is desperate to get rid of it considering the price and vehicle features/mods.

keep a bottle of oil in the trunk and a spare tire or a repair kit/AAA if you don't want runflats. These cars eat tires like cereal.

It's like a bitchy pretty g/f ... good for riding but annoying sometimes. my best friend is leasing his second one and that is why i drive 330i lol. he scared me to death with them. But there are also folks here that have no problems, it seems hit or miss.

GL - great car to drive. Oohh and keep 5K in savings at all times.

Yes, check when/if the engine was walnut blasted to clean out the carbon deposits. Otherwise, you will have to pay to do it.
