2011 iDrive Update

Anyone know the possibility of upgrading the software on my 2009 iDrive to include the new 2011 feature of reading txts?
Given that it should be the same hardware, I would hope this is possible. Thoughts?

I am almost positive you will need to bring it in the stealership and pay to have your software updated. I believe the LCI can not be upgraded via the dvd drive.

It's not a simple software update. Cars with the update has "6VC Combox controller" on their spec sheet.

Not the Combox controller?! Wait. What does that mean?

Do you think there are any upgrades I can take advantage of? This system seems more sophisticated and capable of updates than previous systems.

The September updates are hardware updates not just software so you can't (easily) upgrade.

I have a 2011 n55 e92 (build date Apr 2010). I have the "DVD-less" idrive, and I would think that I would be able to get the '11 idrive update - can anyone confirm this? I'd like to take advantage of the Office apps - I missed this software by mere months off the build line... one would have to think that it could be updated for sure...

You should send a PM with your VIN # to Patrys@BimmerTech [http://www.e90post.com/forums/member.php?u=59568] or to his email listen on his profile. Talk to him about what you want and he will make it happen (but it will not be cheap), I've got a 2010 vehicle built in late 09 and I'm considering a combox telematics upgrade from him (that will get me pandora, office, and a navi speed/performance boost), and just about everyone on here agrees he is the undisputed expert in this field. His PM's are articulate and cover every option, and he clearly cares about his customers.

I'm in the same boat - no office or ConnectedDrive. 2011 335i n55 sedan July 2010 build. I don't understand why a simple software update won't work..

Maybe BMW will create an oem retrofit in the future! The aftermarket Office update is way overpriced and most likely will interfere with your BMW assist.
