Has no relevance to smog. As a tech i could care less what youve programmed unless it changes the ability to read the ecu, affects the non continuous moniters, or sets any trouble codes.

Nope. It may try to run the car a little richer but your a/f sensor will fix that, the cat will clean it up and you will pass. Np.

Just passed my smog check. I went to a STAR smog station and the guy seemed pretty thorough with checking everything.
Here's what I had installed on my car during the test: Stage 2 GIAC DP back AE exhaust (only secondary cats deleted) Stock airbox w/BMS drop in filter ER Chargepipe w/tial bov ER IC |

Is it necessary to revert back to map 0 for a smog test? I'm on map 2, but other than that I'm totally stock. I know it's easy to go back to map 0, but I'm just curious if it would pass while on a performance map.

I never had issues passing smog in california. Just as long as i had the cats on i would pass. A performance tune wouldn't stop you from passing, its the A/F ratio and your cats that could do that. Or if you had a faulty 02 sensor. You should be just fine with your tune, plus smog doesnt get into boost anyways. |

Do you know if they did the OBDII only test? Or did they also do a sniff test. Also interesting that you passed missing a set of cats - is this pretty expected? I have my secondary cats in but thought I would fail sniff with that.

I could see a 335i passing with 2 cats the same way i did. It would be higher than normal, but should still pass the sniffer especially since its a smaller engine (less pollution i would think?). It really just depends on how effective the cats are. If there 2 stock cats your fine, if there two high flow cats like i had its a question on how how well they work. |

So glad I recently just passed... My issue is that I had my secondary cats removed.
They used the sniffer and my car was near the limit on the 15mph test but I was good on the 25mph one. After everything, then the place noticed that I removed both secondary cats and failed me... However, the guy was nice and just put that I failed due to my injen intake (which was carb legal) I took it to a second place and said everything checked out except for the intake. All they did was recheck the intake and run the sniffer again. Didn't check the cats or anything else because the first place passed all of it. Whew, I'm good until they roll out the OBD smog test

They should do the visual first, then run the test. I'm surprised the shop did it the other way. As for you 15mph barley passing, it might be that your cats weren't fully warm and by the time you got to the 25mph they were... Either way you now have 2 years of enjoyment lol. On the bmw, i take it the first 2 and the last 2 cats are on different pieces? Is the last 2 on the H-pipe and the first two on the down-pipe? I have no problem removing 2 cats, just dont want to remove all 4 while im still in CA. We have stupid road side smog tests. Cant wait to move to florida next year. |
