Video Feature - BMW Roadsters: 1929-2013

By XCAR films:

BMW entered the world of cars in 1929 and quickly became known as one of the best manufacturers of luxury motorvehicles. Some of its most notable early cars were the roadsters, exciting and attractive roofless toys that tore up the European roads and racetracks.

We explore the earliest roadsters from BMW, from the 315/1 and 319/1 to the amazing 328 and look at the post war beauty that was the 507 as well as leaping forward in time to the latest generation of roadsters, the Z series.

Fisker did a great job designing it...
The Fisker Karma kind of reminds me of the Z8.

that's a 20+ minute advertisement for the current z4, really. notice how they don't even discuss the Z3 or the prior Z4.

it was probably paid for by BMW.

It's because I think both the Z3 and the Z4 (specially Z3) are hideous. I have never liked them.

they're not hideous. at least they had some uniqueness....unlike other more drab cars in the lineup.

The Z4 coupè is a really good looking car, i would buy an M Coupè if i could afford a toy-car for the weekend. ( here, with less than 20k miles it costs 40-50k $)

Enjoyed watching that, thanks for sharing!

Do wish they had included the z3 and first gen z4, seems incomplete without them.

So the Z3 "wasn't very sporty"?

They should have a look at the all time rankings of the "Ring" times.
German star tester Horst von Saurma attested the Z3 to be a sportscar with a flawless character even if that was meant for the stiffened coupe version.

Unfortunately the MINI and the 1er Convertible prevented BMW of bringing out a new edition of that zippy, agile Z with the lucky number. However my 3.0 will stay with me 'til the end

That was a bit comical. The Z3 was the lightest, smallest, most driver focused iteration of the Z-cars. It only got a bad rap due to the E30 rear suspension which made it a bit of a handful.
