2006 325i Stereo Options

I've searched and looked through the majority of this board and am still unsure of what route is best for replacing my radio (HiFi I believe). The LCD is junk, which would run $100 from what I've seen. I'm just curious about what other options there really are. I've seen Dynavin, Zenec, Andrive and Eonon- but am completely unsure if any look like they're worth the heavy price tags.

So which one is best- I believe only Dynavin keeps the OBC information?

So basically I'm just curious if anyone has any other options to share or any input on the quality/features or the ones I have listed.

Thanks for your time

Yes it would be nice to see the Engine Data but not at the
expense of having a clunky unreliable POS.

Thanks for the information, so in order to put an aftermarket head unit such as a Kenwood in would I have to move my stock stereo to the trunk or is there a special harness available? Also, do the aftermarket double dins look like they might actually being in the car?

You don't have to but you need to at least keep it.

You don't have to but you need to at least keep it.(the OEM head unit)
Depending on which options you have or want to keep
you may have to mount the OEM deck. For instance if
you have PDC and want keep it . Or if you have BMW SOS.
any BMW options attached to the OEM Head unit will not work
and may through error codes in some case they can be programmed
out. (BMW SOS for example)

If you have to go to a BMW dealership almost any of them need
the original head unit mounted to do repairs that involve changing
software values or updating the car . This can be done with a
coding setup for most common repairs if you are clever.
You probably don't have to worry to much about this with a 06.

I don't understand your last statement but there are plenty
of threads that show pictures of aftermarket head units.
I don't like most of the Bezels and sure don't like the ones
that have the heater controls on top.

Also the thread about the Harness necessary for moving/ mounting the Head unit is in the first or second thread but it doesn't show the extensions you need.

Thanks for the reply; I'll stay stock for now. How big are the improvements if I were to add a jl audio 6 channel amp?

This dash kit is the best fitting one and requires no modification. http://www.mybimmer.net/E9x_doubledintrim.htm

Since you have an 06 the chimes come from a seperate speaker in the dash so they will still be functional.

Like ctuna said as long as you don't have BMW assist you don't need to relocate the headunit, but hang onto it for sure.

For easy install I'd recommend this harness.
http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/bmw-1...l#.UrHG3qa9LCQ

If you are using the stock hifi amp use the RCA outputs from the headunit like the following diagram. If you are switching out the amp, just use RCA cables.

Jl 600/6 is most bang for the buck improvement.

Jl 600/6 is most bang for the buck improvement.
Although some favor the ms-8 .
However it is a lot of power for the stock speakers which
are not to good either.
You can expect it will clean up the highs and give you some
bass that you can actually hear . And it will sound better
across the whole range.
One of the most effective mods for a Hi Fi is a amp ,a Technic Harness and upgraded front door and floors.
I think bmw325 can chime in as he has tried both the Jl and ms-8 and I think he concluded he liked the JL better for a number of reasons.

Not bass Head Bass

Not bass Head Bass but at least you can hear some bass with the
Jl installed.
If you want to maximise the bass from the under seats you need
as pair of SWS-8's or German Maestro speakers for the underseat locations,
with the amplifier upgrade.

I was looking into the sws's, seems like a good option. If I were to put a sub in the trunk instead would the jl audio amp be enough to power it good?

I'd recommend the jehnert flatline kit and a xd600/6. The jehnerts put out a decent amount of bass and they are much better at playing mid bass than the sws8. You can always add a trunk sub and a seperate amp later if you decide it's needed.

JL has added a lot of xd amps recently

JL has added a lot of xd amps recently so there are
some other models to consider if you want more out
of one amp though a separate trunk sub amp is probably
a better way to go.
Jehnerts are highly accurate and not lacking in bass but are
not as bassy as some of the other choices.
I like mine and don't feel a need for more bass .

Would it be bad to leave the stock amp and two into the wires to hookup another amp for trunk sub's w/ a balanced to unbalanced converter (what exactly is that called)?

I wouldn't say the JL6/600 makes the car have any more bass at all. You can tune the sound stage better but no bass

I bought a powered sub 2 days after fitting the JL amp. I almost wonder if its a waste of time.

The whole car's stock speakers need to go in the bin. Its just a disaster all round

The sound quality of the stock system isn't bad, just terrible bass. I'm going to do a few experiments tomorrow and will post back with results

What is bass to one person isn't to another

What is bass to one person isn't to another.
Systems with a flat response don't seem to be popular
with the Hip Hop crowd.

If you believe this then you need to shore up the bass, not add a JL amp. That won't help you at all and you'll be very disappointed.

You should probably read the whole thread, here's my last contribution.
