Missing USB from Non-iDrive E90

Hi, I am just curious to know if you have seen or heard standard features being missed from production?
Reason being, my friend just picked up a new 2011 E90 (non-iDrive). For some reason, USB (inside the armrest) is missing eventhough it is stated as a standard feature according to the sales material. We call her dealership today and even her salesperson confirmed that it suppose to be there. Just seems quite unusual to me ... Thanks.

Have him check in the glovebox. I saw a e90 at the dealer about a week ago that had the usb in the glovebox (right near the left wall i believe) and not it the armrest. Cheers!

Thanks. I thought all non-iDrive only have 1 USB inside the armrest. Did not know that it could be inside the glove box.

Yes, factories have been known to mess up orders, especially around the time the model year changes, or the standard/optional equipment changes, or the equipment included in a given package gets reshuffled. On the M3 boards there are complaints from people who ordered 2012s with the Premium Package, which new for 2012 includes Nav, but lo and behold their cars arrived with all of the 2011 Premium Package features but no iDrive. BMW said they'd issue them a credit. Personally I'd refuse delivery and demand the car I actually ordered.

And the USB port in the glovebox is NOT a substitute. It's there to install iDrive phone/audio device updates and for service techs to plug into. It won't let you browse your iPod/iPhone and it won't even charge certain devices. I think there was a time when you could have iDrive and only have the glovebox port without the armrest port because the latter was part of the extra iPod USB adapter option, but I'm not certain on that.

Thanks for the infor. I assume you are referring to this post:

I agree with you. I would probably request for a new car instead. Fortunately, missing USB is much better than the OP from the post above.

Was it a 328i or a 335i? In 2011, 328i got the iPod/USB kit free as part of the free "Value Pkg", 335i's did not. And note that it WAS possible to order a car without the Value pkg, though I can't imagine why anyone would, dealers included. Without the Value Package the car would also most likely have 16" wheels and probably no leather, as without the pkg the leather was a $1450 option.

If it is a 328i, well, the factory managed to put the "i" on my 328i badge on upside-down....

I would return the car or make them add the option for free. That is ridiculous but negligence on your friends part. I would look at everything before i buy a car.

It is a 328i. Fortunately, her salesman also confirmed that it suppose to incl USB and asked her to take the car back to the dealership. I wonder how big of a job it is to retro fit USB interference back?

Agreed. Only thing is, it is hard to resist the excitement while getting a new E90.

In my car when importing music to the on-board HD, the idrive specifically says to plug the usb device into the port in glove box (not arm rest).

That is correct. Armrest USB is to play music. Glove box USB is to import files to HD.

Correct, however the standard USB option is the glovebox. You need to Ipod/USB option to have it in the armrest. Does your car include this option? Your salesperson may be confused.

I opted for no Ipod, so I have no USB in my armrest on my 2011. Only in the glovebox which is how I import music and charge my phone.

Thanks for your comment. I have checked with 2 different dealerships in Canada and they both confirmed that armrest USB s/b a standard feature in 2011 328. Obviously, I am not certain if that is the case for other countries.
