I'm sure your car sounds fine. Anyone who doesn't have the '10 or '11 Base Stereo probably doesn't understand what all the whining is about. This isn't some kind of audiophile I-need-ferro-magnetic-feet-on-my-CD-player nonsense, it's truly terrible. 6 crappy mid-range speakers, no amp, with a permanent EQ curve with nasty bumps in the low and high ends to "compensate" for the lack of proper woofers and tweeters. No low end, the high end is brittle, and the entire middle range ends up hollow-sounding because of the EQ.

I just dropped a lot of money on fixing it, and will need to block out a weekend to install all the goodies I ordered. I couldn't take it anymore. This is not what a $50k car should sound like. The base stereo in my wife's 2004 Passat murders it. I would have left well enough alone if it had sounded even that good.

I paid extra for my optional HK SS system...340W, 11 speakers, equalizer, etc. I love it, even with the top down. BTW, HD radio sounds much better than SiriusXM.

I'm actually very happy with my stock system on my 2008 E92.
A friend actually asked me if I have an upgraded sound system, so I guess it isn't too bad

Whew - I have the HiFi system in my 2007.
I had a similar setup as the base stereo in my WRX (it was supposedly upgraded as it had the Premium package) and it was horrendous.

Yeah, I didn't like base audio system, so I opted for the Individual Audio system which sounds great. Some things I didn't like about it is you have to tinker with the EQ to get the sound you want and the subs are really lacking. I suspect the subs are the exact same as the base version or from Logic7, might replace them with Earthquake subs.

I agree...my my 2011 LCI E92's stereo was quite frankly shocking in how terrible it was. Not a "hmm, I am picky I know the sound could be better." It was a "That sounds AWFUL."

Fixed with Focal speakers and an Alpine digital amp. Very happy.

For those who say "I bought my car to drive not to listen to the stereo" while I agree, it is attitudes like this that allow BMW to rip off consumers on these kinds of details. It's insulting and unacceptable to me that BMW could not install a system that was moderately competent even on the base car.
