Suspension Pros....Dampening adjustments on Coilovers question..
I've been running the FK Silverline X coilovers on my car for about 2 months now and they feel great. I don't know much about how to truly dial them in and would like to ask the suspension experts here on your recommendations. From my understanding FK doesn't publish the spring rates for there systems so that's not much help.
Right now my current dampening setup is as follows: Front - 2 Turns to full Soft (2.5 is Max full soft) Rear - 1.6 Turns to full Soft (2.5 is Max full soft) The car rides pretty close to stock if not better at times. Very plush system and great for daily driving. I use to have the rears set at 1.8 turns to full soft and it was way too bouncy during highway dips with passengers in the car. I still feel it bounce alittle with people in the back seat but i'm not sure if its just a characteristic of extremely lowered suspension with firmer spring rates? I don't want to firm up the settings too much where the ride quality starts to suffer since NYC roads are complete garbage. I guess my question is it typically normal for a cars dampening be stiffer up front or softer like I currently have it for optimum handling? I think my rears is good balance now for ride quality and handling but I'm not sure if my fronts are. I don't really push the car hard enough to really tell during normal day to day driving but I want to maximize the use of a nice coilover system. Thanks in advance! Alan

Thanks for the review Alan, been waiting to hear how these are on the E9X. We ran them on our E46 328Ci and were happy with the SilverLine Plus line.

Are you sure front has 2.5 turns? I think mine only has 2.25 turns. Can't tell you about the rear since I've TCK M3 dampers with top adjuster , that one only has 2.25 turns also.

And I thought at some point you had it set to 50% front and 75% soft rear? That's the setting most people use according to the FK settings thread. How does your current setting compare to that? Actually your current setting makes more sense, since the rear springs are quite abit stiffer than the front for our cars? |

So after about a year with these coilovers i think I'm finally happy with the settings.
Front - 2 turns from full stiff (.5 turn back from full stiff) Rear - 2 turns from full stiff (.5 turns back from full stiff) Its def. firmer than stock but the car handles like its on rails. I went from being 80% full soft to the opposite because i learned that with you have the suspension too soft, the car bounces when you have passengers in the car going over multiple dips on the highway. Feels great for local driving but the bouncing gets pretty bad on the highway and worse the more people you have in the car. The rears even at 1.5 turns it still bounced so i finally said screw it and went basically 2 turns stiff (2.5 is max) and now the bouncing is pretty much gone. You will still have some but thats due to my ride height with limited suspension travel. I would suggest that for the rears, never go more than 1 turn from full stiff to the soft side or your rear will bounce going high speeds. The fronts you can play with since adjusting them doesn't require you to remove the shock like the rears do. Alan
