car got half engine light and sputtered home! Have JB3 2.0, possible corrupted chip?

About a mile from home, I got a half engine light and the car just died. I started it back up and got it to limp home. I have the latest JB3 2.0 and running map 5. Everything has been fine for about 2 weeks now on this tune, and then this today. I reburned the chip when I got home and connected it with the latest interface and everything is fine again. Any idea why I got the half engine light? Thanks.

Loose connection? Possibly an issue that might return later??? Did you read the codes?

That happened to me when I first got my muffler delete. I just turned it off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. It was fine

Assuming its a G2/G3 board probably a fueling issue (pump, etc) but check the codes. Corrupted firmware would occur if you were updating the software via a laptop and unplugged the laptop, for example, in which case the car would not start until you reconnected and re-uploaded the firmware. So not the case here.

I have the gen 3 board and no problem starting the car, so don't think it's a fuel pump issue, but not 100% sure on this. All connections are tight as well, but it's running just fine now. Hopefully this doesn't happen again to far from home!

Unfortunately I'd expected whatever the problem is to crop up until you find the cause. Step 1 is checking the codes.

Other guy had a different problem. He was working on something electrical and after reconnecting the battery the car would not start with tune in. In that case it does sound hardware related but we'll see when BMS looks at it. Car stalling and able to be restarted means the tune is still working fine. But there is not sufficient fuel pressure, injector is stuck closed/open, etc. Its all in the details

I'm a procede guy. But this itself just proves that we can't take all these 'misfiring' 'sputtering' or whatever issues and slap a stereotype on the tune. Anyone who stirs that pot up is just making things worse. Its not about who wins these stupid wars its about developing for our cars and making them faster than the competition regardless of whose tune is doing the work. We should be positively reinforcing each other not negative trash talk. There is no point in doing that. People need to give it a rest and stop trying to make the other tune look bad. I've never done it except out of direct spite in response to such a claim and I don't plan on doing it anymore. This 'sputtering' shouldn't and in my opinion does not degrade the quality of the JB tune. Its not like mike or shiv are out to sell a POS product.

I wasn't putting any product down, I was just stating what I read on the forum about two people that had similar corrupt firmwares without doing anything with uploading the software...Just puzzled to how a perfectly working program could just get corrupt like that all of a sudden?

Neither appears to be an issue of corrupt firmware. This is the problem with people posting to the forums asking for support though. They often wind up more confused than before they started and rarely is there any resolution until they engage their tuner for REAL support. My advice to anyone would be to email your tuner for support then if you're not happy with the resolution or response time then open a thread to complain about it.

It's funny that people post asking for help in public forums. Basically you just pasted a target on yourself asking for people who dislike your mods to come ridicule you for it.

The software that runs microcontrollers will not corrupt itself so unless this just happened while you were installing or updating that explanation makes no sense. Maybe you jiggled around the wires to update it and one is making bad contact or more likely something else is up. Like the others said this is why its nice to have a diagnostic tool handy even if your not modified.
