Thanks for the writeup all you fanatics! Took me 2 hrs to finish; time mostly spent trying to figure out stuff. I can probably do it in less than 40 min now...

Here are some tips:
1) This is how you remove the "secondary catch..." took me 15 min to figure out how to do it without breaking it: You pry from the middle and slide it to the bottom of the connector


2) The instructions did not mention inserting A2-A5 of the retrofit wire bundle into pins 2-5 of the retrofit connector (A1), after removing pins 8-10 from X14292 and inserting those into A1 casing as well on page 11 (Step 6) of manual. (Note: A1 casing is exactly the same as X14292)


3) For pin X14288, you have to put the very small flat head screwdriver and poke on the white latch at the end and slide it out of the black casing (took me another 15 min to figure it out) before you can insert A2, A3, A4, and A5 pins to holes 14, 20, 15, and 16 of X14288 respectively.


4) This is how you remove the original pins 8-10 from the original X14292: poke the hole using the very small flat head screwdriver and pull the wire up at the same time


5) There's an extra brown wire in the bundle that you do not need from the Tischer BMW parts, I just wrapped it around backward to the bundle of wires at the console end and fold the pin backward at the mirror end. Also, you can pull the top panel a little lower and feed the whole bundle of wires through the rubber sleeve; easier than feeding the wires one by one.


6) After finishing, I turned on the power of the car and it didn't work... I turned off the power of the car and turned it back on twice before the digital compass lit up (probably some sort of initialization taking place)... scared the crap out of me.
