I reckon they've taken a LOT of design cues from the 3 series to be honest!

+ 1, look at the arse of the A4 and then the arse of a E92 M Sport, not that much difference IMO

More of the same with a disappointing driving experience according to initial press reports. Why don't they go radical with the styling every 2nd generation like BMW? Interior quality will be top draw as usual

The front looks like a bad rip-off of the MSport E90. The LEDs are (to me) a gimmick and don't suit a mainstream saloon like they do an out and out sports car.

The side view is uninspiring, but the rear 3/4 and full rear are a little more refined than the E90, but perhaps owe a lot to the E92.

The interior just looks like they were trying to hard. There is a classy simplicity to modern BMWs.

It doesn't do it for me, but I'll bet there are loads of Audi fans out there that can't wait for it.

Audis do have a transmission tunnel even on the fwd cars for the quattro gubbins to fit on the relevant models. Won't be buying one either though as it's about as big as our old shape A6 Avant. Liking the A/S5 the more I see of them though. I foresee that with this very definite family face, especially with the LEDs, that Audi will end up where SEAT currently are, where it's very difficult to tell the models apart without looking at the badge. Actually, I have trouble at a glance now differentiating A3 Sportbacks from A4s when viewed from the front. It will only get worse IMHO. There shouldn't be a family 'face', more family 'cues' a la BMW

Nice!

I bet there will be a shed load of drop tops of these where I live in Teddington. I have no issue with convertibles, but the sheer amount of 1.8 diesel A4 drop tops are unbelievable! what is the point? you have a car everyone else has to presumably "pose" and its a diesel (i like diesels - but no to drop tops!) so it fails on all counts ubiquity breeds contempt, better not mention the 3 series outsold the mondeo last year well to be fair the Mondeo was EOL and image is everything until everyone has one!

I don't like the current Audi steering wheels, either. The flat bottomed ones, yes, are nice but that A4 "single frame grill representation" is just bonkers.

One thing that's been bothering me is the engines that will lug this newer, bigger A4 around. Most press releases I've seen have mentioned a 140TDi, when they have a 170TDi in the parts bin. But anyway, doesn't anyone else think they're not going to be that quick, with the 200bhp 2.0T lugging it round, and the 140 TDi probably just getting it's wheels to turn.

Each time a "new" model comes out we're used to seeing the power increase by 30-50bhp to lug the extra size, airbags and toys around, but not with the A4. It's not like they will chuck the 240 2.0T in it and what bigger oil burner do they have?

I did think about waiting for this before I bought the E90, but then I looked at the engine range. It comes with a 140bhp 2.0D (too slow) or a 2.7 190bhp. Trouble is, the 2.7 is more expensive than the BMW 325D with less power and there will no discounts to begin with. CO2 is pretty awful as well. The better engines will come later, but at the moment the A4 doesn't have a credible engine range (well, compared to BMW anyway).

Not sure about the LEDs

Have read a comprehensive road test on the new A4 2.0 TDi up against the equivalent E90/Merc C class & Cadillac. BMW came out well on top pleased to say, so after all this hype on the new Audi, this full report still puts the beemer ahead on all driving aspects and overall ownership.

Interesting that the beemer produces very good torque figures through the gears in the important overtaking speeds of 50-70 mph.

There's a lot about it that I like, (although I'm not taken with the LEDs), but I can't ever see myself buying a saloon. Like Beauforty, I prefer the S5.

How can a company as big as Audi produce such an underpowered 2L Diesel. The engine in mine is 3 yrs old yet still makes much more than the NEW audi

VAG still make a 2.0 litre SDI for the Golf. With an inspiring 74bhp and a 0-60 time of 16.7 seconds.

I miss the days when diesels were properly shite (joke)

That is power sappingly mundane....

Makes overtaking National Express coaches a long drawn out affair...
