yea they have the turbos there since there is no room under the hood or anywher else... also they hit 850hp and top speed of 242mph IIRC

And more lag than you can shake a stick at. Although, maybe not if the turbos were sized properly but I've read that this method introduces a good amount of lag time before full boost is reached.

Hah, its more like the muffler tips are on the turbo's. Rear mounted turbos are a lot more popular with domestic cars, I saw a very clean install of a kit on a C6 vette a few months after it first came out. I though that with the extremely long exhaust piping and charge pipes that it would have lots of lag, but with the huge V8 the owner told me that it wasn't too laggy at all. At least he doens't have to worry about heat problems under the hood or downpipe clearance.

Yea, I saw the same setup on a Tran WS6 awhile ago. I pulled up behind him back in my Turbo Rx-7 days. I was interested to find out what the hell they were. As I pulled up closer I saw there was a big ol turbo underneath there. It looked pretty cool. Finaly got up next to him and he told me a few things about the setup and the 700+ hp he was putting down with these turbos and a cammed LS1 motor.

the distance away from the motor also helps to cool the charge being burned, sort of working like an intercooler

you do lose power to how far you have to pump the air, but that's supposedly more than made up for by the cooler charge

The company that does the rear-mounted setups is called STS, and they are well known in the Camaro/Firebird and Vette communities. STS has had great success with those setups, lag really isn't any more appreciable than under-the-hood setups, plus you have the added benefit of not producing as much heat in the engine bay.

700hp sounds a bit much for his setup, rear mount turbos aren't the best power option for those cars. People do them for ease of install and cost.

The "normal" turbo setups are more popular among the big power guys.

So, do these people drive their cars in the rain after they install a turbo underneath their cars? Nothing like driving through even a small puddle or on the freeway when it is raining and having your air filter getting drenched along with the rest of the turbo/wastegate, it must rust up bolts quick.

really, post a cedible source of where you read that besides some other guy on a forum somewhere.

lag does not come from the time it takes to pressurize x amount of piping, it comes from the amount of time it takes for the engine to start generating enough gas flow to spool the turbos

Well i'm sure it was flywheel HP. That's what he told me at least. Now whether or not this included a shot of the juice....??

Well, you never know really. Admittedly I've been away from the fbody scene for a while. 700hp on those cars is crazy fast.
