I hate asking this, because every car is different, and I've searched/read plenty of threads on here about reliability, but this would be my first time venturing into BMWs....any of you guys riding around without a warranty? or would you say it's a must/pays itself in terms of saving on long term costs of little break downs here and there. Granted I'm not looking to get a 335 or anything and it seems the 328/330 is a little more hassle free just cause it has less things to worry about...

Also, how's the bmw community in the local area? you guys get together from time to time, have tech days, things like that?

Just got paid, gotta call SWBimmers to get rotors/brakes done. Parts are in and I don't want to spare any time to do it myself. =X
Yeah, it was a pretty good turn out. More cars than spaces though . It'll be faster to do it in your garage then take it to them and let them do the same thing. It'll also save you time, money, and gas .

Nice list Manny Ive done most of those too. if you ever need a hand with a suspension lmk I know first hand how much easier it is with two ppl getting the fronts out. Also I'm pretty sure you can add sway bars in the suspension section they're super easy to swap

+1, two good ideas. We could start out this weekend (I know, short notice) with the sincityeuros BBQ/cruise in if anyone interested or Pole Position.

sorry guys, back again with more questions....I'm still 2 months out from heading back stateside so I got a lot of time to research/browse lol

definetly. more confidence in venturing into BMWs with guys like Manny around!

I grew up with hondas but I've ventured off into just about everything, owned an is250/ wrx/evoV/skyline/s15/ but have yet to jump into bmws :X

I was looking up OEM parts and I'm surprised at how not expensive they are? very comparable if not right about even with parts for an acura tl (my other "luxury sedan" option) For example I looked up window regulators/motors since that seems common and on drivewire.com and turnermotorsport.com they are under 200 bucks, but I could have sworn I've read on the forum here before a regulator or motor, not sure which it was but it was $600, so after labor some guy forked up a grand to fix a window....that's the kind of stuff that made me shiver/stay away..Are expensive BMW repairs more a case of people getting raped by dealerships on parts and labor like it seems?

Now 150 bucks, some beer and a tech day at the house, that I can do all day. lol.

Why thank you for the kind words good sir. In most cases, parts are pretty cheap, what really kill your pockets is the labor. I remember when the clamps for the turbos to down pipes got damaged. Forty something dollars for the part, over $1,200 for labor. Plus other work done bought the bill up over $2,200 . Let me add that was the last time my car went to the service department. The internet is full of information, as long as you put aside time (and money on the right tools), just about everything can be done at home. For the money that I spent at the dealership, I could have got a set of upgraded turbos. Even if anyone need something done and I don't know how to, I'll be willing to learn and help figure it out with you.

Good God. Yeah that def sucks, much rather buy upgrades with that money!!

E46s any more or less difficult to mess with than an E90? I know newer cars tend to make things more difficult to get to as if almost to force you to take it to the dealer LOL. E46s are luring too since that body never gets old, for under 10 grand it leaves me plenty of cash to spend on preventative maintenance since it'll surely have higher miles maybe even mods.

any e46 guys here? just wondering

My gf has an e46 that I work on. Preventative maintenance is easy like the e90 platform. Oil changes, spark plug change, brake jobs are all the same. E46 platform is notorious for head gasket leaks and oil filter housing leaks which I'm currently replacing ATM. If you have the time and tools you can most definitely fix and replace most stuff yourself.

Anyone know if anyone does coding here in town for LCI tails and if they need the Footwell Module? I hear some can tune around it so I don't need to buy that additional 300 dollar part...
