Any recommended caliper overhaul/paint shops?

Hey guys,

Working on doing a 325XI to a 335 caliper front and rear retrofit, sourcing the parts as we speak (just need rotors, and a rear parking cable/pads?? setup)

I've got the carriers, calipers front and rear.. I'd like to get them powder coated and rebuilt by someone who has experience.

Any recommendations in the USA or Canada?

Also. This is what I'm looking at:

My car: 2006 325XIT wagon

Installing :

Front
  1. 335i front caliper w/carrier
  2. Front shields
  3. New caliper hydraulic lines (needed??)
  4. Front Rotors:
  5. http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2717944/
  6. Front pads I got:
  7. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1069013

Rear Rotors:
  1. 335 rear calipers / carriers
  2. Rear shields
  3. New caliper hydraulic lines (needed??)
  4. Rear Rotors : (example)
  5. http://www.ebay.com/itm/370952310247...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  6. Need rear pads
  7. Need to solve hand brake retrofit (custom hand brake shoes??) new cables needed? I'll be honest, haven't dug deeply into this part yet..

Any comments, ideas would be great

thanks!

You don't need to replace the caliper hydraulic lines unless you are not installing stainless steel set.
Same with the parking brake cable, is the same.
Honestly, I wound not throw money into e90 335i brakes.
Move onto the new f30 paltform.
Anyhow, if you insist on e90 335i brakes for the rear go with f30 328i M-Sport rear rotor.
Fits over your stock park braking shoes. Is little larger 345mm vs 336mm
A lot easier to modify than messing with the brake shoes. Any shop that turn drums and rotors can help you with that.

For rebuild use this:

or this if you don't want heavy duty:

installation is simple:

You've been very helpful with your response. Thank you. Those rear rotors will work with the 335 rear calipers I got or I just keep my existing calipers? I'm due for a brake fluid change also.. (I saw your recommendations in the other thread.. so i'll do that this spring).

I went with 335 as they were cheap (front + rear calipers with carriers, cost me 300$) and will be a huge upgrade from my 325xi's.. I don't race. It's more for DD and fill in the wheel well with larger disks.

thanks!

Correct, just the diameter needs to be trimmed 4.5mm for perfect fit which is very minimal and easy to do.
The negative is that they are expansive. Perhaps you can find aftermarket.
The regular "plain" are lot cheaper. Size wise they are identical.

My advice is to get one from your local dealer for test fit.
This is how the plain one looks like:

It might fit even without any modification. Exchange for other parts when done.
Original dust shields should work as well.

you can see why the f30 <335i would work from looking at the drum area.
If you go with regular e90 335i you can either modify the rotor or the parking shoes.

^ thanks, i saw that thread with modifying the parking brake shoes. I use my parking brakes quite a bit in the winter.. (a little fun..) so whatever I do, need to make sure its solid.

Couldn't i just change my 325xi parking brake mech to a 335 one to make it all work rather than custom disks or shoes?

Yes you could, but its more difficult. You will need to remove/replace the bearing to access and replace the plate that keep the parking brake shoes in place. So. you are looking at new bearings, new, plates, new parking brake shoes and more labor involved. It doesn't justify it. Modifying the MSport/MPerforamnce 345x24 from the new 328/428i will be probably the easiest.
