Retro project BMW
I know its not E90 related but it is BMW and i wanted to keep it UK so hope off topic section is fine with the mods
In the next 6 - 12 months im looking for a Retro project. Ideally something tatty and unloved, most probably a rust bucket. Like the idea of stripping it back to its shell and completely rebuilding it. Only problem is im struggling to narrow down to what i fancy. The main 3 i have narrowed it down to are: BMW 635csi BMW E30 325i coupe BMW E30 325i cabriolet I want something on classic insurance for weekend fun when the weather is good lol So what do you think?

Personally I love E30's apart from Convertibles.
My first choice would be E30 Coupe followed by the 635

Hi mate.
Best person in the world to speak to about this is Dips from customcars. Might be worth starting a topic on Evo if you a member as he's there or else find his phone number. He's currently got 20 retro BMWs all registered to him. He's done hundreds of customer projects down the years too.

Depends how much you want to spend. I seem to recall the 635 parts cost a fortune, particularly panels. Can't comment on the E30s other than to say I love them!!

I had an E30 325i when i was 20. Would love to have another. Although i'd fit an LSD and bigger tyres before i crashed it this time
But the 'shark' would be first choice for me. Not considering the practicalities. |

I hope Dave you plug E90post on other forums as much as you do for EvoT on here.

I'd have to say first choice would be 635csi BUT they can be fairly expensive to restore as some of the part prices are extortionate. If you are on a tighter budget I'd go for a 325i sport as it already comes with an LSD and looks lovely with the M-Tech kit.
Alternatively you could try to find something a bit rarer like an Alpina, Hartge or AC schnitzer E30 which will be a bit more special and will hold it's value better. This is something I consider doing from time to time. I got to look after a mates Alpina C2 2.7 many moons ago when he was out of the country for a few months and have to say it was a very special car. In fact I'd go so far as to say I'd rate it above the E30 M3 in terms of drive-ability although the M3 does look nicer. |
