Heavily modded n54 335i - HELP!!!
Hello,
Recently I purchased a Space grey 2007 e92 from a used car dealership. I bought it knowing it had multiple aftermarket parts. However now I am at a loss on figuring out how much aftermarket parts have been installed and am hoping to find a shop/person around the Northern Virginia/DMV area that may be able to help figure this out for me. I had a code when logging 2fa3 missing codes, with a little research. Some people say that occurs when stacking tunes a friend of mine says it looks like there may have been a Cobb accessport that the previous owner had taken off. There is no methanol tank but the lines are already in place. I would appreciate any help trying to track down what kind of things I should look out for. I am located in the Fairfax, Virginia area if any members might be able to help. I'm used to older bmw's so figuring out things with this one has been pretty tricky for me Thanks, Kai So far I've been able to deduce the following upgrades. Engine/Performance Mods: JB4 tune and USB diagnostic port

Upon logging had only this 2fa3 (Missing Codes) Injen Twin cone Ram Air Intake Methanol Solenoid and hoses running to trunk Blow-Off Valve What looks like an upgraded fuel rail Active Autowerke Exhuast Catless Downpipes What looks like an aftermarket Intercooler Aesthetic Mods: Carbon Fiber CSL Trunk White LED Interior Last edited by kair.e; 12-28-2015 at 11:49 AM.. |

First thing I would do is get MHD, flash the latest JB4 backend flash map and update your JB4 firmware to the latest version.
Then see if there are still any codes and go from there...

"What looks like an upgraded fuel rail"
if this is the case your a lucky dog, heck you may even have some upgraded turbos. hopefully the car was enthusiast owned and not just someone who beat the living crap out of it and traded it in before it really took a dump, but buying from a dealer you really never know. if you don't want to do more research and learn it, it would probably be best to find someone local, try the local forum on here someone I sure would be able to help you. right now it would be best to probably run it on a safe JB4 map, like 1 or 0, until you know what fuel the car is made to run on and if it had meth maybe it was to be run on 93 and is tuned that way, but if it has port injection or a fuel rail you say that is aftermarket then it could be tuned to run on e85 and running pump gas wouldn't be a good idea as the back end tune will likely be running too much timing. you really do need to do the MHD flash and at least flash back to a back end tune you actually know what its doing and know what gas you should be running. maybe someone would help you with that. if the person was using cobb and flashed it back to stock before trading it in that would be great, but who knows right. you could have someone pull the tune using MHD and compare it to stock, but it would be easier to just flash it using MHD. look into that fuel rail and see if it is port injection, it would be a plate between the head and the intake manifold with 6 injectors and wiring to a controller some where... Thanks guys I will do the MHD flash and as of right now I've been leaving the map to 1 to be safe. And It seems to have been running meth and e85 since the logs had been reading meth on map 5.
Delta0311 lol Last car I owned was an e34 s52 swap and an 540i. I'm by no means an expert lord knows that but I love to mess around in the engine bays :P. And I am an sadomasochist lol. I'll take a picture of the engine bay as soon as I get off of work to help figure things out. I appreciate all your guys help!!! |

I'm totally messing with you.. You look like you know your shit from the get go. If the car was well maintained then you got one hell of a beast there. Best of luck to you and I hope that issues is only a minor one.. |

There aren't any upgraded fuel rails for these engines, the only thing that comes to mind would be custom port injection which could also mean it has upgraded turbos.

N54CherryHill I haven't been running it too hard yet since I'm too weary about blowing something up.
Heel Toe I wonder what my friend saw then I'll check again. Jeff@TopGearSolutions I'll get around to the pictures after work. I get off at 5 so should have pictures up by 6-6:30. Sorry, I literally have had a lot on my plate so I haven't taken the time to take photos of the bay |

Yikes, my thoughts exactly as well! Don't think I'd ever buy an extensively modified 335 from a dealer who had no idea what modifications were installed. And x390893 on pics of the engine bay. That should definitely help.

Okay so here are the pictures everybody's been waiting for as promised at 6:30ish. Hope my shitty iphone photography skills in the dark help give an idea of what's going on. Feel free to demand better pictures.
Thanks fast35i I'll definitely check them out.

I think that your FMIC might be Stett. They are the only company that I can think of whose FMIC is angled on the ends like yours. Actually, Big Tom is also angled on the ends as well.
If I were you, I would do some maintenance on that car, especially since you know that it has been modded. I would start with the following: Replace Plugs Replace Coils Inspect VC for cracks or clogged ports Remove Intake Manifold and have valves walnut blasted if necessary. Inspect accessory belt and replace if needed. Inspect Vacuum lines and replace with silicone 3.5mm hoses if needed. I would probably do this even if not needed. I would remove the JB4 and flash with MHD, but that is my personal preference. |

I don't know if you know this, but that car looks like its been hit pretty hard. Look at the light, bumper, fender and door fitment. Look at the fender screws when you open the door. I guarantee you they look like this.
