You may not need anything more than Maguiars White (for light colored cars) or Black (for dark colored cars) Wax. This stuff is new and darn good. I used it on my son-in-laws white 2010 Honda that had been neglected since day one and the results were amazing. There were no swirls, but the clearcoat was dull/oxidized. I used a dual action orbital polisher. If you need some correction or swirl removal, suggest you get into something like the Maguiars Dual Action Power System for your drill with Ultimate Compound to start, followed by what I mentioned above. You can get different pads for the polish and wax, no need to buy the tool more than once. Regardless of what you decide, you must apply some wax after you clay. |

I have had my share of bird crap problems and as already stated it is best to deal with this as soon as possible. However, if the bird stuff actually leaves a stain on the paint, I have found that Bug and Tar Remover works great. Better than polishes, compounds, clays, etc... You may need to apply and repeat the process but it really works well.

Should I get a car wash first before or after claying? I'm probably not going to clay the entire car .. but just the stain. lol I bought Meguiar's polish yesterday so i'll probably apply that after the car wash/ claying.

Generally I have always clayed after I washed the car, but some people do it during the wash to save some time. It's all preference really.
I am definitely going to get a bird poop kit though. |

I used to have a black RSX & been under the sun for a week when I was on vacation, bird poo totally ruined the clear coat. Bird's like to target black cars...for them, it's like a toilet. Of all the cars in our office parking lot, my car always gets the poo & another black car. I got sick & tired of cleaning it, that's why I wrapped my car.

a bird poo'd on my trunk a while back and when I tried to clean it off it scratched the clearcoat. Luckily my detailer was able to get it out. Damn jet black.

LOL...
I get a small fine lines of bird poo at this particular place. Tiny but all over the car sometimes. I go close to a water canal, I think this is why. Must be a particular birds they do this. I have to remove it with my finger nails all the times in between car washes.. |

Lots of good advice in this thread about using instant detailer to soak the poo. It should be noted however you should always try to "pinch the poo" off of the paint and never just wipe it first. Try to "pick up" as much poo off the paint as you can by pinching your fingers together using a microfiber after soaking the poo in instant detailer. If you just try to wipe it, all the abrasive crap in the poo (pun intended) will scratch the paint. Many birds eat gravel and grit and sand in order to aid in digestion.
I keep a small spray bottle of instant detailer and a few microfibers in the trunk for bird poo emergencies. Last edited by triger716; 06-19-2013 at 02:37 PM.. |

It has etched your clear coat. Clay bars are fine for removing inbedded contaminates, but you must remove the surrounding clear to the depth of the etch with polish. Be advised, you only have so much clear and you can remove too much.
Personally I'd try something like Meguires Scratch X and be happy to smooth and lessen the mar. |

I claybar my car every time I wash it. Simple and easy to do.... just don't drop the claybar. But if you do, trash it!
