So far, I am looking at £228 for insuring this event - is that about right?

I would like to get it down a bit.... £150 would be nice, but I might be kidding myself.

I usually limit the amount of cover to £10,000 and then cover can be got for around £85, excess is still £1000 but cover is the desired impact including drivetrain etc.

Its quite easy to completely trash a car on track, so personally i would go for full value insurance.

Touching wood here - in 20 years of trackdays I have seen very few incidents and only 1 at Croft.
I run without insurance and so do most of my regulars which must tell you something.

If it was last October`s incident it shouldn`t count, it was front wheel drive.

Doesn't it - thats good news, it means I have got a clean sheet again!

Actually the Mini wasn't that bad - a bit like one of those toy cars where all the parts fly off when it crashes.

I do think it's very event dependant, if well run as this day and all rules are enforced all will be fine I don't take out insurance for Bedford and I won't be for this event.

I did recently attend an event at Donington and that showed the need for insurance, lets just say there appeared to be zero discipline from those attending and no enforcement which made it an interesting event, I wouldn't book with the particular company again, lesson learnt and roll on Croft really looking forward to it.

Bookatrack.com.

Donington is fantastic and I am very tempted to do Nicks event there in September (funds willing), it was a PM session with a lot of Non road legal Race cars (mainly Caterham) which I believe were using the Thurs PM session to familiarise themselves for a weekend event, the behaviour on track was akin to a proper race and a bit hairy at times, not once did I see a Marshall intervene with many drivers deserving min black flagging, I felt sorry for some of the less experienced Guys attending who were continually being bullied through the corners.

The organisers also race with the same Guys so little point in complaining I and a few others have just voted with our feet

Thats Jonny!

He's supposed to be one of the good guys - but then again thats how the Se7ens love it.. I do days in the Westy as well and you adopt a different perspective.. it's great fun!

But you don't mix the two..
and you deffo don't put a few saloons in with the spaceframes (you can do it the other way round) or they are all over them like a swarm of bees.

The other cardinal sin is spending too much time on circuit when you should be attending to your customers.

You have described the outcome really accurately when saying a swarm of Bees!!! Jonny gave a great safety talk and made a big thing of saying overtaking strictly by consent, we were all most impressed until we got out on track when it all went pear shaped, I saw so many altercations between road car V Caterhams when back in the pits and had a few incidents myself but couldn't be bothered just made me more aware.

The biggest issue was the fact that the Caterhams and race cars duly ended up in groups so you signalled to allow some past and all expected passage killing any hope of adopting correct lines etc, I will concede they look great fun and would love a go myself in the future but best not to mix the 2 IMO.

Ive already got a passenger coming up with me - and more than happy to put £20 in your tin. But are you saying that every person who wants to come for a few laps in my car as a passenger has to pay £20 each time??
