335 brakes on 325d
I've sourced front 335 callipers and carriers to go on the front of my 325d.
Question I have now is what else do I need? Obviously I know I need discs and pads But the rear disc guard will I need to change that? Any help, part numbers etc greatly appreciated |

I tried that put my uncles 335 chassis no into realoem and the part numbers it were giving me don't seem to be correct because when I look for the item it doesn't correlate to photos of the 335 dust guards. That's why I've came here for people with experience to lend a hand

Just did this on my wife's 328i.
Everything is a direct swap. You need to slightly trim the dust shield on the back with a hand saw. it is soft metal so it takes 2-3 minutes when you take your time. wear sensors are the same, brake lines are the same. Make sure you get the car coded for the sport brakes when you are done. Once you have it coded and you take it for a test you will be shocked at the difference!

Go to the brakes and suspension sub forum and look for my thread on coding performance brakes.

that are actually more aggressive than the performance brakes. You do need to code.

I've not once before seen coding mentioned for an upgrade to 335 brakes...I'm really not sure you're right on this one. Performance brakes in BMW speak is Brembo's not oem brakes as far as I understand.

My 335i has stock brakes they are great, not too aggressive but instill confidence. I have upgraded my wife's 328i to 335i brakes (and coded to performance brakes) I have upgraded my 118i to BMW performance brakes (and coded to performance brakes) The best combo is the 328i with 335i brakes. On the 328i pre coding the car did not handle properly under hard braking. It shifted side to side and gave my wife quite a fright (on the autobahn) After coding, dead straight braking and digs in like you dropped a 3ton anchor. Bottom line is, the coding was designed to program the car to the better Brembo brakes but the 335i brakes are better performers than the smaller Brembo brakes. The coding is not exactly designed for the larger 335i/d brakes but it is still closer than stock coding to the proper biases.

Having fitted F3x 4 pot Brembos with 370mm disc (superior to E9x 335i) I have not coded my car for bigger brakes.
I am genuinely interested in the changes this coding applies to the car, what exactly does it do? |

On my wife's 328i the pedal is firmer, and biases are adjusted and pedal response is improved.
My 118i pedal is slightly firmer and response is generally a bit better.

On a side note, my 118i is going in for a brake recall and I expect better pedal response after the visit.

This would make sense with regards to ABS, DSC etc. I imagine the ecu would need to know if the brakes and rotors change.

They can be trimmed with no issues.

Looking to pick your mind again David. Hopefully fitting my 335 callipers tomorrow weather permitting. My question is about bleeding the newly fitted callipers. Is there a specific bleed pattern? I know it's common practice to bleed furthest away first but just wanting to be 100% sure no specific pattern

power bleeder and do the dry bleed. Keep the reservoir topped off and pump it up to 20psi and let it flow.

David sorry to be a pest just looking to pick your brains again. Finally gonna have the time to get the brakes on either tomorrow or Thursday and I know what I need to do except for the trimming or the dirt guard. I have a 325d is much trimming needed??
