Nice post! I'm sure your many years of hose handling brought you to that conclusion. That almost 90 degree bend that was caused by this a$$hat parking his car there could have been avoided entirely if he had just not parked there. Then the hose could have been fully charged providing full water pressure to the fire fighters who needed it. Not to mention the linear feet of hose that was essentially lost due to having to bend up and then down the other side of the car. That could have ment the difference in saving or protecting someone's life. A jacka$$ like that does not deserve a drivers license or a car in my book.

You know, looking at this car, a non-sport coupe with light interior... While we're all speculating, I'm going to make a wild assumption and claim a new conclusion:. chick car. Maybe our soggy-seat driver is female.

Ummm...am I the only one reading this and thinking the BMW driver deserves no sympathy and that s/he hasn't anything to complain about? S/he knew damn well before ever buying a car, any car, that it's not okay to park next to a fire hydrant, ever...for any period of time.

I only read the first few posts before scrolling to the page bottom to write this. So if you think that driver/owner is a totally arrogant ass and idiot as I do, I'm glad to see it.

All the best.

Because going over or around the car would not have as effectively made the point they did oh so successfully make: DON'T PART NEXT TO A FIRE HYDRANT!!!

I doubt it took much time at all. Have you ever seen a fire hydrant wrench, fire hose or the nozzles and/or connectors that are affixed to them? I'm sure just one good tap as they walked past the car was all it took...doubt they even broke their stride to do it.

All the best.

You're a special kind of idiot, huh? Kindly go and park next to a fire hydrant.

This idiot deserved every part of this and is lucky that he wasn't parked in front of the building that was on fire, because there would have been a lot more hose over that car.

I think the idiots are the ones that decided to have fire hydrants designed like that!

In the UK they are flush with the ground, so would not encounter any of these sorts of problems!

So refreshing to see support for your emergency services in the USA who I know from experience are much more respected than here in the UK.

I have no doubt on any UK majority forum it would've been a trawl through posts saying the Firefighters should've been sacked, they were jealous etc... etc. In fact with all due respect to Teaston above, there is a valid reason (below) why the hydrants in the US are like that, I wish ours I the UK were.... Not at all idiotic. And we get people who park on pavements and right on top of them.

But to the point, as a 27 year UK Fire Officer I have no doubt I would have been explained to everyone and conducting interviews to 'justify' such an act. As the post above points out, hydrants in the UK are underground. Because the weather in the UK is much milder we don't have to worry so much about hydrants getting buried by snow which is the principle reason for the US style hydrant. However, in much warmer parts of the world they have post hydrants to make them early identifiable and quick to draw from. Professionally speaking I'd love to see post hydrants, the time we waste in the UK looking for the yellow wall plate and then shipping the standpipe to draw water.

The E92 owner had it coming though. Should maybe just get the glass fixed and leave the dent as a constant reminder not to be an asshat

Totally cool with what was done here, and understand fully the lack of sympathy towards the driver. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt until I hear their side of it, so I'll go against the grain on this one.

We don't know why the driver parked there, it could have been a complete accident, they didn't see the hydrant, the spot wasn't clearly marked, they were only going to be there a few minutes and figured this never would happen, etc. Point being, I won't assume he was parked this way just to be a douche. Either way, pretty funny stuff!

Two firefighters lost their lives in this fire. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these brave men that ran into the building to save lives.

I have no sympathy for the BMW owner. Precious minutes were lost due to the car blocking the hydrant. I am not saying that those few minutes would have saved these men's lives but in these types of situations time is very precious.

NO, they absolutely SHOULD NOT pay for anything, in fact the owner of the car should be getting a bigger fine. His/Her fine now is probably only $100 (on top of having to fix his car), it should be at least $1000.

Imagine if your house is on fire and the closest fire hydrant near by was blocked by this asshole, making fire fighters waste time trying to move the car to access the hydrant that they absolutely need (remember YOUR house is on fire, God forbid YOUR family and loved ones aren't inside still). Do you still think the firefighters should be nice and wait for the owner or a tow truck so no one damages some POS car? Do you think some asshole's 328 is more valuable than your life, the lives of your family and your house?

THINK, put that organ in your head to use.
