Service Engine Soon light came on

Hi,

Last Friday, the service Engine soon light came on. After two days, it went off. And today it's on again. I read the warn codes. There are two errors P1014/P1017.

Googled P1017
- Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor circuit is open or shorted
- Valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor poor electrical connection
- Missing reluctor on valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor
- Faulty valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor

Not sure if this is the real cause. If it is, does this matter or I can disregard it? My car is in pre-own certified warranty, does anyone know if this part is covered?

Could be a VANOS issue, which is common on these cars, and yes it will be covered under your CPO warranty.

Thank you very much. What does VANOS mean?

My Service engine Soon light came on as well, but on mines after 60MPH the car started to shake, so I turned off the car, restarted and it went away. Does anyone have an idea what it could be?
