someone keyed my 335i

Hey fellas, so this morning when I was walking to my cat I noticed that it was keyed, someone keyed a penis on my passenger door along with few other key marks.
I'm looking for someone that can tell me what they think is the way to make this beauty scratch free.

Sorry that happened... I can't stand when people vandalize cars.

Is the scratch all the way through the paint? The general rule is that if run your fingernail across the scratch and it gets stuck in the groove, it won't be fixable without a repaint. If it's just light scratching, you can try going at it with something like Scratch-X, or taking it to a professional detailer and having them use a DA or rotary buffer, or maybe even wet sanding if needed.

So basically...
1. Figure out if the scratch is through the paint. If so, no real solution but repainting at a body shop.
2. If not too deep, try Scratch-X and see if you make any progress.
3. If too deep for Scratch-X but not all the way through the paint, take it to a good detailer and have them try.

Deep Scratches
A surface scratch that will `catch' your fingernail is approximately 0.04 Mil (1.0 µ) deep will usually require wet sanding and the clear coat refinishing Removing a scratch requires removing the layer of paint that contains the defect; you need to level the paint to the lowest point of the scratch. Removing more than 0.3 mil (8µ) of clear coat will cause premature paint film failure as UV protection percolates to the top of the clear coat. Check paint film thickness with a Paint Thickness Meter (PTG) before you attempt to remove

As you go over a deep scratch, the abrasives round off the edges of the high spots of the scratch. The result is a shallower scratch (when no full correction can be made) rounded edges don’t reflect light the same way a sharp edge will and is therefore less noticeable.

Unfortunately a more and more common form of deep scratch are those inflicted with a sharp object i.e. a key. It may be necessary to carry out some localized wet sanding to facilitate full removal of any deep scratches, once again, paint thickness must be checked, and if the paint is too thin wet sanding should not be considered

Deep scratches are usually best dealt with by using a pro detailer

who would scratch a cat?! .... in all seriousness. that sucks... hope it gets sorted out soon but the only way is repaint if its a lot of scratches. repaint the panels and blend them in with rest of car.

You, or a good detailer can fill in the scratch with touch up paint as much as possible with a tooth pick. or the brush that will be in the bottle of it.

than get some 3000 grit wetsanding paper and a flex sanding pad. After all touch up paint has dried very, very well you are going to sand the hi spots, the spots where it will bulk up around the scratch.

once done sanding, all the touch up paint should only be in the keyed mark. the excess should be sanded off. Your going to need a good 2 stage compounding to really buff everything clean.

Wolfgang total swirl remover 3.0 and their 3.0 glaze will work. M105 & 205 will work (not a fan, but will do the trick) and chemical guys products, etc, etc.

but your going to need an aggressive compound to remove the scratches and then more of a polish or glaze to clean up the compounding marks & any left over sanding marks.

if your really search here you should be able to find a thread like this, but with pics.

in short, touch it all up. Sand off excess, buff off sanding marks, polish off buffing marks.

if you dont own a DA or buffer your going to need to go somewhere.

I agree with Rival to a point. It depends on what color you have, the touch up paint that BMW or Dr. Colorchip supply will not always be a perfect match. Which means if someone drew certain choice shapes in your paint, you will have them touched up but you are still going to be able to tell what happened. My suggestion even though it's more costly would be to have the door repainted. This is the only way you will get a factory style repair and no one will be able to tell anything happened.

oh your still going to be able to tell with my fix.

but once the car is dirty and your 20ft away, you wont. Just close up and it being clean it will still be there.

Its more of a 80% fix. and thats if you have done it 5 times. Goto a local body shop and grap any type of body panel and do this a few times and once its time to do the BMW you have some EXP under your belt.

if you really search here, you ll find a thread of 2 where guys have done it.

I just got a scratch like a key mark. I think some one just rubbed up against my car with metal or something. I'm hoping it was just an accident and they didn't realize...

I'm was planning on doing what you described. I tried some light compound by hand yesterday and it helped a little.

I think I'm gonna do a very light wet sand first, then touch-up paint on a toothpick, then another light wet-sand and then light compound w/ my porter cable. Touch up paint can be pretty good if you take your time to do multiple coats and build up the layers enough.

I'll try to remember to post some before and after pics here.

Just posted a thread about fixing a scratch the above mentioned way.

it would take a very long time to do a whole key mark, but you could always give it a shot if you don't want to go to a body shop. Obviously didn't come out 100% as a respray would be the only way for that.

yes...this is what im talking about.

buy you would touch it up 1st. then again......Both times, just tiny tiny amounts....then sand excess away and buff.

if you search real hard you ll find more. But again, goto a body shop and get a panel of some kind...try this procedure a few times, then do it on the car.
