used downpipe?

very simple question, I have the chance to buy a used megan racing downpipe for my n55. I usually don't like buying used car parts but does anyone have even a single thing to mark against buying something like a used downpipe? the shop and og owner says it's fine to use the same gasket he had on his car and apparently he is including the bolts needed as well. its a simple question but i could use as much insight as possible... LONG story short this would be my 3rd time trying to put a downpipe in the car, the other 2 were cheaper downpipes that didnt fit and I had to pay the labor to install them. This will be the worlds most expensive downpipe project once I finally get one in lol

Hi Andrew,
We offer these downpipes and they have not been popular over the years (Fitment issues).
I recommend you just grab the VRSF ones. Brand new with lifetime warranty for under $300

I value your input mike! but its funny because vrsf was one of the two downpipes that didn't fit I ordered it directly from them as well. I just org didn't want to throw them under the bus, I have their fmic and it works well, just had some bad luck. Also considering these downpipes are actually coming off the same car as mine and it was already installed this leaves me to believe fitment wouldn't be much of a concern

Maybe just a bad DP or the older version?
We sold hundreds of these DP, never had a problem

If the Megan DP fit well on the other car and do not drone, there is no reason you should not install them on your car assuming you are getting them for a good price

My vote would be to wait for a used AR design dp. Pretty much the same price as a new vrsf but is actually built well.

I can attest to the fitment of the VRSF units being good. I do not like the inner transitions however and would not buy mine again. I have my eye on the performance line from Mike@n54tunning as a replacement if I ever need to remove the VRSF unit. Maybe at that point there will be some reviews on the fitment.

If mike (above) says there have been fitment issues with the pipe you're looking at I would just avoid them.

it might of been the first revision this was a while back. I have no problem with them I have their fmic. and cool it's being sold to me for $185 I'd say that's a good price.

I'd love to pick up an AR design dp , trust me but I don't have the patience to sit around checking the forums all over the place to see if one is up for sale. Also ar downpipes are so expensive around $800 depending who you buy from but even used half would be $400 and most people won't mark it down that much. AR is amazing tho im well aware of how nice that dp is lol I might have to settle this one is going for $185 and as far as I know megan racing is respectable

In case you're interested in picking up my barely-used VRSF one:

there is an AR in the classifieds for 450 right now. I highly recommend it over a vrsf or megan. just saying.

Has the vehicle ever been in an accident? Where is the poor fitment problem area, specifically. With 2 downpipes not fitting it begs the question if something else is going wrong.

Haven't heard many fitment issues with VRSF. In fact I was one of the first people to install them before they were even released.

That being said, I don't agree with re-using gaskets and I definitely don't like the quality and fitment of Megan parts.

If you want a high quality DP, definitely consider the AR design.

Buying used is already risky, then buying a Megan part just makes it that much more risky. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

So I have the chance to get a used cobb dp for a good price but I'm thinking why not a brand new vrsf? The price won't be much of a difference. What do you guys think?

Wait for a used AR, significant difference (I have a vrsf).

True, I'll wait. The guy already sold the cobb dp. It had a dent in it anyway.
