best and most mod friendly dealership in VA/MD area?

Hello guys,

getting ready to pick up a 335i (slightly used) soon and im wondering which dealership is the most mod friendly? not trying to do anything crazy but still want to be aware if i do decide to do some mods on the car. which one is the best to take to for service?

I live closer to Sterling BMW, are they mod friendly? any other suggestions? and who is the best SA to deal with at your recommanded dealership?

I know Fairfax is the one to avoid.. :/

Can't wait to join the bmw family. been lurking around for a while and finally found a good deal that i'll pull the trigger on.

Sterling is mod friendly...until you need something serious fixed.

Sterling would be best since they are the closest. does anyone know who i should ask for in Sterling? i want to find the best SA to deal with and not going to give me a hard time if i ever mod things in my car.

i just realized that Tischer BMW is also a support vendor on this forum. are they easy to deal with? mod friendly?

i see they are in silverspring, MD.. isnt too far but is it worth the drive? i live much closer to Sterling.

Yes, Shawn Peace is a good SA at Sterling. One of the few good guys there.

Regular maintenance and stuff like that, they won't hassle you for. Just be wary, when you take your car in for a warranty issue.

what do you guys do if you have mods but have to take your car in for service? I want learn about these things before putting mods on the car.

personally i've never had problems with bringing in my car with mods. other than a piggyback, the dealers gonna be hard pressed to say that your aftermarket wheels, suspension, or exhaust is your main problem. even then, they really need to prove that your mods caused the problem. i wouldnt be worried about it at all if those are the items you have questions about

I will disagree a little and say that no dealer is mod-friendly when push comes to shove.

Also, a new exhaust has been blamed for turbo problems in past, not sure I would take that gamble with a turbo job being over 10k. Or, at least ask before doing the modification.

stay away from Passport BMW in MD. They refused to fix my overhead console light because I had an aftermarket radio.

Passport has nice facilities, but they are kind of far for me.
Tischer is good.

I've always heard good things about Tischer BMW - plus they are a sponsor of this website and seems like many buy parts from them.

are they easy to deal with? i see they are also a Dinan dealer, so im' assuming they should be pretty mod friendly?

Just make sure if you get it from VOB you don't get them to prep the car for you. I got mine with scratches on the hood and pillars. I took it back, they polished it, looked fine in the direct sunlight and cleanly washed, a couple days later I noticed them again and there were more and looked deeper.

I haven't taken my car in for service at Passport yet, but in my brief conversations with the SAs and managers they seem pretty reasonable about mods. They are the ones who alerted me to e90post in the first place and even offered to do the golf tee mod for me (I declined).

Look, no dealership SHOULD look the other way when an aftermarket part damages the car - they're fiduciaries to BMW, not you. What you want to avoid is dealerships who go out of their way to blame routine things on modifications.

I would just say be reasonable in what you expect the dealership to be cool with. When push comes to shove, it's "you break it, you buy it" no matter which dealership you frequent. And I think it should be that way.

My SA is Kristina Williams. She's treated me pretty well. When she doesnt know something, she'll ask to get an answer. thats a whole lot better than making something up which i've had people do before

i called Tischer for couple things i may need for my car and their service and parts are def. the cheapest. i've called Sterling, Fairfax, and Tischer.. def. the best. too bad ti's a bit far from me but oh well, might be worth the drive

I'm the only one who has no problems with VOB

They've been good to me, even entertaining my smallest and pettiest requests. My SA has no problems with my mods but tbh I've not brought the car in for a mod-related warranty claim.

I'm with T-MC-G, not having much luck with Passport.
