Another One Bites The Dust

Well, after ordering a new car, waiting a few months and second guessing the decision many times, my 335d has gone to a new owner. It was an amazing car, best one I've ever had, with power and efficiency that had no close match (now with 535d, A6 TDI it can be, but for a 40-50% premium in price).

My 335d was a CPO car and had warranty for the whole time I had it. I only had one warranty event which had to do with SES lights. They ended up trying two fixes on it and eventually a sensor related to the DPF as well as a module were replaced. I always received great service from both the original selling dealer and my local where it was serviced (same ownership).

There were two main reasons for moving on. The first was practicality. I have two kids and there's always "stuff" to take wherever we go. The E90 sedan is relatively tight with two adults, two kids and all of the gear. We would end up taking my wife's CRV everywhere as it was easier to get the stuff into, easier to get the kids in and out of, etc. I also tow a small trailer now and while the car had no problem pulling it, the ride height was a bit of a problem getting into and out of places with the trailer.

The second reason is that I had a fairly good run with the car, no major problems and figured I should consider myself lucky and cut my losses. As I said, the car always had warranty so I wasn't that concerned about it in the present, but was worried about it in the future. I was also worried about the prospect of owning it out of warranty or what being out of warranty would do to resale value. The horror stories of carbon build up, all of the problems with DEF, injectors, etc. just got to me, kind of spoiled it for me.

So another BMW diesel now inhabits my garage. A fresh X3 diesel. It's slower, it doesn't handle as well, but suits my needs better. Thinking about being a potential glutton for punishment with another BMW diesel, I leased this one. How the first few years goes will determine what I do post lease.

Congrats on acquiring your new X3 diesel and for selling your 335d. I agree, the 335d is truly an amazing car! I enjoy driving it! It's nice to see people with options and choices with regards to diesel vehicles. When I purchased my 2003 VW Jetta TDI years ago, my diesel vehicle choices in the USA were definitely a little more limited than what they are today.

I wasnt aware they made a x3 diesel, perhaps you meant x5 diesel?

That's the way I went 335d --> x5 d

They certainly both have their advantages, x5 being roomier and having tons more cargo capacity.

They actually just began offering an X3 diesel in North America for the F25 LCI MY 2015. Same powertrain as the 328d.

Congrats OP! I've been curious about the X3D for a while too. I think it would be the perfect every day sport 'ute, especially with an M package.

Currently I have my 335d as the daily commuter and fun car, and we also have a 2005 X3 for the hiking / kayaking / winter snow machine.

so the x3 d is a 4 cylinder one. I had 328d as a loaner for a month, was pretty good but had a hard time to get used to the sound of the 4 cylinder. Not sure why but I have no problem driving them in Europe but when it comes to have one here I just can't convince myself lol. But for sure, very economical engine. Congrats on the new purchase. That 4 cylinder engine is a gem. Excellent fuel economy and enough power for day to day tasks.
