Any pump can fail, but I'm just saying preventive maintenance goes a long way

Just an update. My top is currently stuck in this position.

So first there was the Hydraulic pump failure, replacement pumps go for $1600 I was able to get it for $1100 through my BMW connections, we replaced the pump and the top worked fine.

Fast forward 4 top opening/closing it got stuck again, they rechecked the pump and it was out of fluid, so they traced the hydraulic lines to a ruptured line which was leaking, the fluid was escaping the pump which lead to the pump failure. So now we have to repair that ruptured hydraulic line and then fill the pump up with hydraulic fluid. Which will cost another $150 for the part and $650 for labor.

They did say they have only seen this issue twice ever. So it's rare but I'm throwing this info out there for you guys in case you have some similar situation you should have the hydraulic lines checked first before replacing the pump if the pump is low on fluid.

Symptoms:

* Slow moving top
* Top may stop then start
* Top may get stuck while in operation

Mac.

Agreed. I was going to proactively replace it this month during my turbo upgrade. When it blew, no damage, no overheating, thx to sensors, bUT shut me down in the middle of nowhere waiting for a $350 tow.

Yup, it got rear ended but insurance is giving me the run around, so I'm taking care of it myself until I can get them to reimburse me

Doesn't your insurance cover towing? Most do...
