'06 325i exhaust - best option?

Hi folks. I got my 325i a week ago, and I'm very happy with it. I love the sound of the engine when it gets to the higher end of the rev range... but I think I would like it a bit louder.

I don't want to rattle windows (I have nothing against a loud exhaust, but I don't think too loud would match the character of the car) - just like what I hear, and would like to hear more of it.

So what do people recommend for a cat-back replacement? I see a ton of options out there. Some as low as $600, and some for LOTS more. This car will never see a track (I may autoX at some point though) so weight is not a HUGE concern, I certainly don't want to HURT performance though. I just want more decibels of that sweet sound.

I did check the muffler and it seems there is no valve - so I can't plug the line to keep the valve open. Oddly though it really seems to get louder above 3500 RPM, but I guess that's just a normal sound curve happening.

I don't want a massive drone at low RPM, just want to let it snarl more when I step into it.

Thanks
-Glenn

I personally think the BMW performance exhaust for our cars sound the absolute best. You can get even better sound by adding an intake to some exhaust work.

welcome to e90post.

please use the search button and search for muffler delete.

That is the best bang for your buck. Being a 325, like myself, don't expect to see extravagant power gains from any exhaust.

+1 on the BMW performance exhaust. I also wanted something louder, but with no drone in the cabin. I installed a Euro Air Box with the exhaust. Don't expect to add any significant hp, but I do feel the two mods give the engine a slight bit more power above 4k rpm and highway driving.

Definitely the best combo.

PE is a bit pricey, but try and haggle your dealer down as it's essentially old stock with the F30 release.

Maybe a few sites will discount them in the next several months.

Thanks for the tips, folks.

The Remus exhaust is adjustable, right? Is there a difference in sound between the two-tip vs. the 4-tip? I don't want to have to cut the rear bumper.

I will look up the euro airbox and consider it, thanks!

BMW PE + Euro air box combined is a pretty penny! However, that's the route I'm going to take too after I get my wife her damn Michael Kors bag. Lol

i have the same car with Magnaflow combo'd with a Simota CF cai. It sounds so good and no drone! maybe a little at 70mph on cruise going up hill and no radio on, but i almost never do that. wish i could give you more info and part no.'s but it was already installed when i bought it over a year ago. highly recommended. very tuned throaty sound, not obnoxious inline 4 with a grapefruit shooter sound. no rasp or rattle and wont wake up the nighbors if you're creepin' around early or late. it is a cat back system so no emiss trouble either!

I have 2 tip and I always leave it as loud as it could go. Never actually tried the quieter settings now that the exhaust is burned out.

Like what everyone else stated, our n52 engines won't gain much hp since a lot of our power comes from backpressure*. If you're aiming solely for exhaust note then the BMW Performance would be my first pick and Eisenmann would be second. Perhaps maybe a muffler delete and/or resonator delete might interest you.

*Based on what I've read so please don't quote me on this.

you could get a magnaflow 14815 if you want a cheap muffler that sounds good.

When I had my 325 I had the rogue engineering icon muffler with a resonator delete, and it sounded great.

A bit shakey

Thanks for posting. It's tough to tell from a video, but it does sound pretty good. Also seems like it's not too loud. Thanks!

Here's my Dinan exhaust. Sounds great but they raised the price to $1600. Also the video makes it sound way louder and more aggressive than it actually is. The windows down part is pretty true to life.

Magnaflow and borla I hear give it deep tones. Much like the muscle cars I hear.

Just had my muffler deleted at a local exhaust repair shop for 100$. Truly not as loud as some may expect, noticeable throttle response difference in DS. After a month still very happy with my decision, and the extra cash in my pocket.
