AFE Stage 2 intake questions

reading through the site, there are a few different versions of the stage 2 intake.

i am a little confused with the difference between some of them. can you guys help me decide which one i should go with and what the difference is?

how can intake
# 50-81472 yield 14HP 27lbs TQ and cost $1000
# 54-11473 yield 27HP and 34lbs TQ and cost $467

why would the first one cost more and yield less

i am most likely going to go with one of the variations of the stage 2 afe intake, AA chip and AA exhaust or eisenmann exhaust.

thanks for the help.

AFE is notorious on this site for their bogus claims. 27 hp and 34 tq for an intake is probably the single most comical claim I have seen for any part on this car. I just don't know how they can continue to claim that despite all the testing showing nothing even close. Actually some have lost hp with it.

The Stage 2 system is a fully enclosed intake that replaces the piping right up to the scoop portion behind the radiator support. The Dual Cone system (cheaper) replaces the intake box only and reuses the factory ducting. I would recommend the Dual Cone, it is just as effective as the Stage 2 and more affordable.

dual cone

which one specifically?

does it still have the decent sound of an intake? what are the realistic gains if afe overstates their numbers?

i used to have a gruppem intake on my e46 330i. loved the sound!!

i have the dual cone CAI (cheaper one) that nick was describing and i love the sound! you can really hear the swoosh sound when gasing it . i suggest you get that one since it also come with a heat shield thus isolating the cold air from the engine high temps.
