I believe vendors have a right to charge what they believe is fair market price. You have the choice of voting with your wallet. People still pay 2k for HPF's straight pipes and thus, the vendor is validated.

Right now I have the stg 2 / plus on my FBO (GIAC). Great tune... But, I'm sticking with the v5. IF the Cobb tune can provide what the V5 has in store than it's a different ballgame. Right now the V5 has all to R&D behind it - this can be proved wrong by cobb if they have been doing some major behind the scenes work. Right now. I believe that it's a major turbo market and a tune company needs a way in and and is going to stand on their prior work to authenticate their involvement. Prove me wrong cobb.

And people who don't know any better will STILL pay. I am amazed by the level of newbiness on this forum. Its like the guy above me said it perfect, for some reason, in this community, people simply don't know any better.

Again ... Great flash ... not for me... and possibly not for anyone that want's to do new turbos later on - GIAC will not go out of their way to create a custom flash for upgraded turbos. It's there prerogative. BB |

Couple questions, that are important:
Until the ATP is available and that requires the user going to a "dealer" Will you have different maps? Stage 1 (just tune) Stage 1+ (tune + intake) Stage 2 (tune + intake + FMIC or DPs) Stage 2+ (Tune + FMIC + DPs) Stage 3 (Tune + FMIC+ DPs + meth and/or race gas) Now you say power will be same or better. I take this as your typical Stage maps will compete with the jb3/procede.. but if the user gets "Protuned" (My STI was protuned), then this will allow that individual car to be tuned specifically for their mods, and thus will extract a little more hp then the competition. Is what I wrote a fair assessment of what is coming? Also, have you been in contact with dealers - check out the local forums and see the shops, I am sure MANY would be interested in working with you.. this will get the ball rolling faster, unless you already did this! Thanks, Mike |

I agree that this "could" be a type of breakthrough - but mainly for shops that want to dyno tune you and charge you huge. If someone wants to dynotune after every mod they put on than this could be legit. However, with v5 and jb4 autotuning - why is this necessary for people that are not FBO plus upgraded turbos? It seems that if you get in touch with Terry or Shiv - they can do the same thing? Shiv's ad's say that they will have dealer's soon to custom dyno tune a car. CPE - when they f-ing decide to release their tune will do the same... Terry won't be slow on their heals. IMHO, unless PROVEN otherwise, this is an attempt to break into turbo territory, investment 101.

My whole point is that $800 for an AP or protuner that a user (if qualified) can go to the dyno and custom tune it is not highway robbery. If this is more than a flash and rather a custom tuning tool, then $800 doesn't seem crazy high, rather reasonable compared to the market. Now if it is commonly $595 and $695 for other platforms, does an extra $100 for the N54 seem to be a stretch? I think not...and it can definitely reflect the added development cost, assuming there is more.
This, like other flashes will have its' advantages and disadvantages, but we'll just have to wait and see what the future brings. $1495 for the GIAC Stage 2 shocked me..I had no idea it was that absurdly high. |

I think anything above 645 for a basic tune is retarded...the "extra development" = BMW tax..I am just arguing for the principle. People charge us more because they can, they think because we work hard and have nice things that its ok to up the price and give explanations that revolve around the terms "quality" and BMW. Anything BMW is infinitely harder to make and produce "x" parts for that is b@#$@#t. Then they play to the ego of the community because BMW's are soooooo sophisticated that it just takes so much more time and quality material...steel from new Zealand and leather made from people just excuses to mark it up.

So stick with a piggyback then. I am still not sold on the idea of flash tuning while running methanol. Progressive meth mapping is the best thing that happened to this platform while running meth and simplifies things greatly.
For those running full bolt-ons on pump gas, do you really think you're going to gain a shit ton more power by custom tuning? I highly doubt it. |
