Just interested to hear how N54+DCT+260+rwkw holds out? Any slipping or weird stuff happening.

The steptronic 6HP19TU was bulletproof.

they seem to be holding ok so far. Pavo is FBO (meth now aswell?) like Ian and his DCT is doing ok.

TBH the 6AT 'feels' faster than the DCT. Not saying transmission shifts are faster, but the feeling of torque seems greater in the 6AT, perhaps it's the DCTs tall final drive or something.

Hey Steve,
I've had both the ZF 6sp and the DCT and both have their pros and cons. I never had issues with my ZF and I gave that car heaps. The DCT is tricky, it needs to be babied but once you understand how it works it's pretty cool. As far as slippage goes, on kickdown you can feel the ECU limit torque to the DCT while the clutches slowly engage giving you that slipping feeling. It feels like your riding the clutch out on a manual. The DCT is also a little clunky and noisy at times.
Pavo is the one to speak to as he tracks his DCT regularly.

Maybe he's going to retrofit a DCT box into his 135i for truly one of a kind! Might need some coding work on the ECU and a custom prop shaft but it should be doable. Do it Steve!

Burqaq I think his name is by memory (a us based member) he has done hundreds of passes down the strip in his DCT 335i, and is pulling high 11's on stock turbos (fbo minus meth by memory) with conventional tyres also.

Edwin is right about needing to understand HOW the DCT works to get the best out of it. You have to remember it is 2 seperate boxes in the one housing with R, 1, 3, 5, and 7 on one side and 2, 4 and 6 on the other. If moving from one gear to the next it is quick, real quick but if you are 'jumping' it will be slower and 'clunky'. there are other bits and pieces that will swing in favour of the auto and DCT but imho the DCT wins hands down for getting power to the ground

Oh sorry i just realised you actually asked about being able to handle power (fail) yeh its fin with FBO and Meth. remember this is the same box that is in the M3 sans oil cooler and nifty electronics upgrade.

Agree with this - When I test drove 4 335s back to back (2 6AT and 2 DCT) at the dealership 6AT def felt faster. To be more specific, 1st gear feels alot faster in the ZF. For some reason 1st gear in the DCT feels sloppy like traction control is limiting the power (but no DSC light) when flooring it off the line.

Every sales rep (at diff bibs) agreed with me. That said up shifts under WOT in the DCT are 'crisper', whereas the ZF feels smooth like butter.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. Then flash/piggyback the 335i and call it a day if it's your daily.

Maybe Australia was different but my early 2009 335i (09/2008 production) has CIC. There was another upgrade I think for MY2012? that introduced Connected Drive etc.

For those interested in a technical read about the DCT, see attached.

DCT's aren't a slush box, and are made pretty damn well! Heck, they exist in the M3's.

An traditional auto transmission has a torque convertor. And part of the function of the torque convertor is torque multiplying, so under acceleration, it will actually multiply the torque output, that's why it feels faster.

Its looking that way. Cant bring myself to get another 1er considering the price for a comparative, fully loaded 335i is much better. Anything but bsm though.

The plan is to have a 335i for me, my wifes PE 125i as the runabout and a E34/39 440i for the V8 noise - just to annoy the meth addicted, houso P platers that make up 70% of Newcastle.

Its weird, up here you could have a 1000hp turbo 6 and no one up here would give you any respect, but have a 90rwkw, 16 second mid 90's v8 and you are top shit.

Hmm I have a soft spot for the E39 540i's they are a neat cruiser, and can be had for a reasonable price but the hard part is finding one that is decent!

BSM is so common. Most cars (1er or 3er at least) are BSM. I want Le Mans or Interlagos Blue. Plus my wife is adamant that I will not buy another black car.

Are you thinking of offloading after all the work you have done to you bimmer?

Fair enough, as much as i love black i have loved the space grey especially when you get comments like did you wash your car today (when it hasn't been done in a week - as you know black looks putrid the next day!)

Hmm having thoughts of shuffling a few assets around, and have contemplated on listing it for sale and if it sold it would give me some $ to invest into property and potentially buy and sell a few houses that we own....

As you mentioned though I have invested a lot of time into it and am quite attached to the car. If i was to sell it would be great to keep it local and go to someone who would maintain it to the level it deserves and of course gets driven regularly and enjoyed!

Maybe we can catch up for that beer, you can take her for a drive and see what you think and mull things over.

I love the blue also, and it seems to be rare in the E92's... I cant think of an E92 owner on this forum who has blue.. or are you going for an E90 (damn they are great value these days!)

E90 are just too fugly for me. e92 Le mans blue with tan/beige interior, gun metal 19" wheels = shit hot (to me).

Wont be tinkering too much with this car for a while. Thats why I am getting the 540i, they are cheap enough to fiddle with and not worry too much. They are slow as a Monday but can get some awesome v8 growl.
