just a hunch
No..No..No...her mods are to the house...we are just finishing a master bath remodel...BIG bathroom...and the project has now topped $35K. It was her idea..the project scope creep is 85% hers...it is a very nice bathroom now...but still. She sorta got on me last week for saying I have new Morr Alloy wheels coming..and especially yesterday when a package was delivered by Bavarian's Dom....lower front splitters.

To that I ask, whos money is being spent on the bathroom remodeling? Whos money is being spent on your mods?

Joint venture, joint decisions. Sometimes it is wise to keep to one's domain. My wife finds our interest in stuff like light alloy wheels risible at best. We are really rather silly after all, squandering huge sums on our cars. Bottom line for me is that relationships are always more important than money or things.

Who is he to say what you can and can't do with your own property? He shouldn't have that much control over you and if he does, you probably don't want to be investing money into co-ownership of a house with him. Doesn't bode well for the future of your relationship, IMO.

She and I would probably get along. I don't understand the CF roundels (or CF anything ), aluminum pedals, PROcede, either.

in 3 years you spent atleast 100grand on modding? Dude, I would rather use that money to then buy a real sports car. I hope you were over-exaggerating.

I am not so sure you want to do that. Plastic surgeries cost a fortune these days. To make things worse, they are like drugs and your wife will get addicted to it.

So many armchair wives.

If you work hard for the money, and it doesn't have any current obligation (kids, debt, etc...) do what you like with it. Sure, it's always smarter to invest, but everyone needs a hobby and investing often isn't it.

YEah they can be annoying though, but if you put manicures and pedicures and 60 haircuts into the same as modding, she flips out and says she deserves it because she takes care of the house (cleaning, cooking) and the kids...In no way is it the same thing in my mind

One of my observations after modding my last 4 cars; the more time I spend on the forums the more likely I am to buy shit for the car.

It's a hobby. Hobbies can be expensive or they can be cheap. At least you're not restoring old cars ... yet. Now, THAT's an expensive hobby.

That's the one I pull out when I get the mod bug and the wife gets cranky about the cost. I just do the, "you know I've always kind of wanted to get an old Porsche and restore it." All of a sudden the money for new wheels doesn't look so bad.

Damn you could build a house for that much. The trick is not using a contractor and hiring the carpenters directly.

I agree completely. In my view, there are VERY few mods ehance the appearance or enjoabilitiy of a car at all, and none make life more enjoyable than a good human relationship. Most appearnace mods (rims, body kits, painted this-and-thats) make inherently beautiful cars looks downright stupid. Performance mods are easier for me to understand, but, even then, many do not pass the cost-benefit analysis.

Does your wife have her own hobbies that she spends (wastes) money on? If she does then her objections are silly. However if it really is a budget issue she may have a point.

I do think I am going to go ahead with some black wheels and good tires though. Put the Run flats in storage for when I return the car. Otherwise... Not much really...
