Noisy Runflats

The Bridgestone runflats on my '06 325xi sportwagon are extremely noisy. I am on my second set. When new the noise reduced significantly but now with 10K miles the annoying noise is back. Anyone have experience with this issue?

Try to use the search function. There has been an ongoing recall for more than a year. It involves the allseason tires. Did you replace them through the dealer? If you did they have an offer to replace all 4 if you have less than so many miles. If you have more than that number of miles but less than / they will replace 2 if you buy 2 and all labor is covered. Once you pass a certain mileage you're on your own. If you bought them on your own you will have to deal with the vender you bought them from. First check with BMW to see if the tires are the ones involved in the recall.
Goo Luck

You might want to switch to the Contis instead. Most people who have switched have noticed a much quieter ride. I have about 15K on the Contis now and they've been fine.

My buddy rides in my car maybe 2-3 times a yr noticed the smoother and quieter ride the very 1st time that he rode in my car after I had switched the tires out.

+1, I had bridgestones for my first set, they where loud as heck...passengers asked if I had an intake and I didn't even have one at the time!

Got my replaced with Contis, a LOT better...rides have been a little smoother and the noise has been reduced by a lot.

I would just ditch the runflats altogether, if you must have runflats the Continentals are much better but the handling and ride difference between runflats and even the cheapest normal tires is appalling. It is no where near worth the safety benefit of a theoretical flat tire, not by a long shot (for me).

Get to the dealer right away. If you have less than 10,000 miles on this set, they will replace free of charge per BMW Technical service bulletin. If between 10K and 20K miles, they pick up 50%. Search this site for the tsb.

The problem is they'll only replace with more run flats, so you have a perpetual problem.

If you are faced with only 50% assistance or even less, my advise is to go ahead and buy a good set of non-run flats. I switched to bridgestone RE90Pole Position tires and absolutely love them. Great handling, very quiet, long wearing, and cost about 850 compared to 1300 for new run flats.

Good luck.

Here is the TSB

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B360606g.htm

I took mine in last week because the shoulders (inner and outer) on the front were feathering pretty significantly at 9700 miles. I wanted at the very least for this to be noted prior to reaching the 10k mark. I didn't have excessive noise. However, according to other with the same issue the noise only increases as the feathering gets worse. My SA (female, totally rude) tried to blame it on underinflated tires so make sure you have proper air pressure in the tires when you go in. I made sure to have the proper PSI when I went. Currently, I am waiting for BMWNA to respond to see if I get new tires.

This is clearly a wide spread problem otherwise they wouldn't have issued a bulletin. Underinflated tires could be accelerating the issues, but it is more likely related to poorly engineered tires. I will be fighting for my new tires if they feed me some BS about tire pressure. Good luck.

I've gone through some old posts because I actaully thought the car was very quiet with the run flats on the highway. It seems that most of the complaints are coming from 2006 e9x's.

I had all four tires replaced at 12k miles by the dealer. I didn't really notice the noise until after about 10k miles.

Thanks for the service bulletin link. I am going to the dealer today to resolve this issue. All the feedback has been helpful and informative and gives me a little more ammunition. I'm not inclined to go to non-runflats (my daughter commutes in this car and I feel more comfortable with runflats) and will try the Continentals to see if they make a difference.
On a more positve note, I just placed an order for a 335xi coupe with every option in the book. Looking forward to adding it to the stable in the next week or so. I hope it doesn't come with Bridgestones!! Again, thanks for all the feedback.

Dealer agreed to four new tires at no charge (within 10K miles on this set). They will not be Brigestones because they said I would be back in 9K miles with the same complaint. Referring to the sevice bulletin made a difference. This problem is a major issue for them especially when you consider that many BMW drivers are enthusiasts and knowledgeable about the product.
