Salvaged title car
My brother recently bought a salvaged 2008 335i. After 3 months of fixing fixing it up, he finally started driving. The same day he got the "Engine Malfunction" "Reduced Power" error.
Whenever I drive his car it feel so much weaker than mine, and after doing some research it looks like it's his HPFP...He's taking it back to the shop to get it checked out, but I'm wondering what his options are...I'm not familiar with salvaged title cars so I don't know if it's covered or not. |

BMW has the hpfp covered for 120k miles, but I don't know if they would do it on a salvaged car. I wouldn't know how they would find out unless they ran like a carfax or something, i'm just guessing here.

OP:
You'll want to find out when the car was deemed a salvage & the title applied to the car. This may have some bearing on whether BMW will warranty the HPFP & continue to offer the extended warranty. A salvage title just means the car was declared a total loss with repair value being more than the current market value of the vehicle. Parts are parts which would seem to mean the pump to be covered regardless. Btw, the location of the damage to the car may come into play also. Rear damage may constitute warranty void of the HPFP. Subscribed to find out what happens ..... |

Usually the warranty will be void on salvage title cars.

BUT, the HPFP carries a separate extended warranty for replacement of a known flawed part. A warranty existing on the car as a whole of course would be non-existent.

OP tell your brother to take it to dealer and be hush about the salvage part, I don't see how they would know unless they do a carfax or contacted the insurance. It doesn't hurt to try.

The VIN will be shown as soon as the FOB is inserted therein alerting the dealer of the current status of the car. VINs of salvaged vehicles are made known to the salvaged vehicle manufacturer.

Ok I didn't know that, you could still give it a try because it is a known faulty part.
