e90, Not going into reverse gear!!??

Bmw e90 4 door, 320 M sport.

Problem: The car will go into all gears perfectly EXCEPT the reverse gear.
When you finally put the gear into reverse and try to reverse, it keeps on popping out of gear.

Has anyone had any similar experience or have an idea on what the problem could be? I know its a gearbox fault, as a mechanic has qouted me around £690 to repair it, (but didnt quite clearly state, what the problem was)

Garage List
Presumably a manual gearbox. In which case (in my experience) worn shift fork (the thing that pushes the gear cog along the shaft) or the dog on the gear wheel (projections on the face of the gear wheel).

You would need to remove the gearbox. This is really a specialist job unless you have access to garage facilities.
