I just find that the step on the core isn't really in airflow so the upper part of the unit is not working as efficiently. Also the end tank designs are such that the upper step is in indirect flow as the air has to go up over and then back down.

So saying that a properly designed non-step core of the same volume should flow better and be exposed to more external air flow to aid in heat exchange.

Does this make any real world appreciable difference on a daily drive. Probably not

The importance on a daily drive is not if its stepped or not, but the quality of the core. The helix or the new company selling them have a very high quality core so I wouldn't hesitate using their units.

I would recommend the VRSF 5", great quality and you can't beat the price. Also installed their DP's and chargepipe. Also Tiago is extremely helpful I would definitely check out VRSF

Anything is better then stock. With that said, just installed a VRSF 7inch and it's big, nice quality although the outlet pipe had a slight ding in it, shipping who knows. Bottom line, just data logged, my intake temps were 25-30 degrees lower then stock, wow!

Call it 53-54 degrees ambient, during data logging, IAT was 59-63, went to 71 sitting in traffic. During some of the colder weeks here in NJ say ambient 30, saw IAT anywhere from 65-75 and at idle as high as 85 after pulls, again, 30 deg ambient. The 7in VRSF lowered the temps by at least 20 deg conservatively.

I ended-up with ETS 5". Seems like a solid piece. No pressure changes near as I can tell. Temps stay much lower but hit 140 at the drag strip... For that purpose or a serious road racer, I'd likely go for a bigger unit and/or meth for AIT management. For a spirited DD running roughy 390hp and 420 tq, I'm good to go??

Is this a Guestimate? I'm running the same as you as far as mods and I haven't dynoed my car but I was curious as to the amount of HP and TQ I have using the mods I have.

Thanks

I would say it's an educated guess.. I dyno'd the car this summer at 364hp and 417 tq. Since then, I have installed downpipes AND corrected a stuck diverter valve, which was limiting boost somewhat... Arguably, the DPs are worth 16hp given company stats.... I've also had my tune modified substantially and my load request has moved up to 190.

Happy to answer any questions!!

But you're N54 right???

I'm N55 E93 HAC (Heavy A$$ Convertible), lol and Automagic (<<making fun of it) Trans so there may be a couple of HP/TQ differences.

I'm not yet tuned but I'm planning to be after I get my Alpina Trans flash and probably a few other exhaust goodies (PE, maybe in near future).

Thanks for responding.
