I just couldn't pay £54k for a tuned 3 series saloon. Bet it will depreciate quickly as well.. Oh and there is no way a m3 does 0-60 quicker that 4.2!! 3.9 secs is 997 gt3 performance and my 997.2 c2s would pull away from an m3

Alpinas usually hold their value better than normal BMWs.

Looking at the last B3 coupe, a basic spec 2008 B3 will cost £17k. You can get a 335i of similar spec for around £11k.

Good spec cars are £21-22 for 2008 cars which is way above the value of a 335i.

This time there is a 100bhp gap and not just 60bhp. This one does appear to have more substance to it.

Some of the E46 Alpinas are still over £10k. That doesn't seem bad to me.

It's a bespoke block that Alpina ordered from BMW, actually. The normal N55 block didn't fit (in particular due to the necessity of having two oil and water cooling lines), so they had to design a slightly different block which is based on the N55 (valvetronic was a must due to emission and fuel efficiency, so the N54 couldn't be used any longer).

The new M3/M4 will really need to make an effort to differentiate themselves, as the concept will be exactly the same and the power output largely similar to the Alpina. The rumours about a considerable weight reduction for the F80/81 are IMO also ridiculous as these efforts seem mainly restricted to a CF roof (didn't we have that already with the E92...?) and ceramic brakes (probably an 8k option).

I remember seeing it as the time.

They use a roll out, which can account for a couple of tenths... On top of that it's physically impossible for a 414HP 1650kg car to do 3.9 0-60mph.

Based upon these figures (a couple of extra hp and a whole lotta extra ££££'s) I'll keep hold of my E92 B3SBT as it handles better than the F30 version (according to the press) and is only a couple of tenths slower to 60..and as it's already a well sub-5sec car, I think it's 'adequate' for carrying 4 pax in sublime comfort at up to 186mph.

Alpina really need to redesign their wheels. Been around longer than Bruce Forsyth.

Love these cars. Seems to me that Alpina pitch their product at the guy who buys bespoke suits rather than the (off the peg) M3 / M4.
