Removing paddle shifters

For the wire connector connected to the shifters, do I just pull? Just wanted to make sure before I try it with pliers.

Ps so I got the wire connector out, but my new question is the old sport steering wheel trim supposed to have a gap with the new msport wheel? It isn't very flush
