Angry Now holographic buffer trails...WTF

OK, I finally got the chance to remove scratches, and some left over stubborn water spot etchings by my rotary buffer + Lake Country orange pads + Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover.
The good news: it removed scratches, and some left over stubborn water spot etchings very quickly at 1500 rpm than I applied Zaino Z2.
The bad news: Now holographic buffer trails show up. I rewashed my car, those holographic buffer trails didin't go away.

Was it because the 1500 rpm too fast?
Was it because the Lake Country orange pads too coarse?
Was it because Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover too abrasive?

Any "safe" suggestion to remove those holographic buffer trails? Thank You

The problem is the the orange pad, which does put buffer trails in the paint. Anytime you use that aggressive of a pad, you need a finishing polish and white pad or finishing pad to remove them. You can't just use the aggressive pad and walk away.

It like using sand paper, you go from a rough grit down to a meduim grit and then a fine grit.

Absolutely correct, and even more so for a rotary. You can often get away with orange pad and a lighter polish (like PO203S) on a PC, but even that really isn't good practice. The rotary needs finishing steps to remove what the aggressive pad/polish combination leave behind.

Question

What about my polisher selection? Is the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover still the correct polisher or should I move to something less abrasive?
If I have to move to something abrasive, any recommendation? Thank You

It's hard to tell what is too abrasive without looking at what type of correction you needed done. From what it sounds though, you just randomly chose the easiest route. I don't know too much about your polish you are using so I can't address that.

Always use the least aggressive pad/polish in a small area and see if that works. If it doesn't, work your way up. This is what I would recommend unless you are a real experienced Detailer.

Pics?

Finishing polish and finishing pad.....problem solved. Nothing to really worry about.

Even if you didn't get the holo's....you still need to use a finishing polish.

85rd on a white pad, or a black pad would do WONDERS for your car at this point!

Question

I have Zaino Z2. Will this do the job as well with a Lake Country black pad?
Also what speed should I use on the rotary buffer for this particular job?
Thank You

z2 is has no abrasives and is not a true polish-it is a sealant with some glaze activity to cover up scratches.

You need a light abrasive polish with a finishing pad. And no offense but sounds liek you dont have the experience to be using a rotary

dude before you end up paying for a new paint job after you try all your products with rotary , i suggest get a DA and some polish pads.
and before you use it read some articles about how to...DA and how to.. remove holograms. is not science is time consuming and a good breakfast before u start.

Rotary is a tough machine to use unless you have a lot of patience and a lot of experience with it.

Even the better detailers finish up with a PC random orbital or similar after a rotary job.

Best thing to do for buffer trails is go over the spots on slow speed, nice and slow with a light swirl remover, and even something like Menzerna po85rd after that on slow speed.

Preferably on white and then black pad, and preferably with a random orbital buffer instead.

Ive given up on using a rotary myself, i leave it for those heavy swirl removing jobs that require a wool pad, then I usually finish up using a random orbital.

-throw rotary out, its only for Experts
- Use Porter cable 7424
-Invest in white and black pads
- Use Megs 205/menzerna 203s (white pad) and Menzerna po85rd (black pad) Slower speeds. Start on speed 3 work up to 5 then back to 3.

Zaino is ehhhh not even over-rated it just doesnt work as well as the above products.

i don`t use zino zpc, i will go with meguiar`s 205 and polish pad or any other mid-finish polish with DA,go on speed 6 first 2-3 passes with pressure and u light the pressure on pad for the next 3-4 passes.
check your work after ipa wipe down and if need do one more 205 step as above

If all you have is a rotary and are without access to a DA machine you CAN take care of holograms with a rotary. I do it all the time. There are some tricks to it.

Previous posts are absolutely what I would recommend i.e. a less abrasive polish and a finishing pad (white, black or blue).

I also use the "Pyramid" or "Zenith Point" approach. That's when you gradually go from a slower speed, say 900 to 1000 to start the section then progress up to about 1200/1300, then back down to about 1000 and lighter pressure to finish. My arm speed slows down a bit on the final passes also. You want to fully break down the finishing polish and let that completely smooth the paint's surface. Many times hologramming is a result of not letting the polish fully break down.

Check that section with an iso alc wipedown and do it again if it needs it. Good luck.

Very true, which is why i mentioned using a rotary takes patience. Which is why 98% of people just get a random orbital LOL

Isn't Zaino ZPC abrasiveness comparable to that of Meguiars 205?

I haven't found ZPC to have the ability to remove holograms.
