Short commutes and local running around gives around 26 mpg
Longer runs including making progress with dual carriageway / motorway around 32 mpg.
I have never acheived better than 32 and this is calculated on full tank to full tank not using OBC to calculate.
I have never acheived anywhere near the BMW figures. This is on a pre ED car. i do not know if the efficent dynamics are that much better in real life.

MPG

I have just purchased a new 325i auto, had it for 4 weeks. So far around town averaging 22mpg. However, on a run to Bournemouth from Croydon (motorway and A roads) averaged 35.4, so very pleased indeed.

Great car this and better mpg than my old Lexus IS250SE, but only by about 3mpg. More poised on the road and more fun to drive. No problems with the run-flat tyres!

I currently have a E93 325i Auto M Sport and its seems to be about 27.

The E93 is heavier so I actually expected it to be worse.

325i vert (albeit a manual) does 22 ish around town driven enthusiastically

Never seen it above 30mpg but then again, not done any really long runs either (whenever I do it tends to be *00mph down the motorway which is less economical than round town )

Hi Chrisbin,

How's it going?

Just had another idea for you....

What's LPG availability like with you? Could you look at a 325i with LPG conversion - with RFT's they might be able to fit a doughnut tank in the boot.

All the joys of a 6 without the cost??

Seem to remember there is a place in somerset (Taunton, Bridgewater??) that does LPG conversions on BMW's - I enquired there once about having B10 converted.

Think it might have been D & N Autogas Ltd.

Just a thought

Blimey, redE93cab, I'm getting 31-33 out of my manual 325i vert. I suspect you may be liking that top-end howl a bit too much!

Hi Mark!!

You stalking me??!!!!

Yep....it is indeed another option....and certainly there's reasonable availability locally......I guess I'd have the (irrational) fear of something non-standard....oh and of course the 325i is also more expensive on the BIK tax front....

Not sure about this but if you are buying new and the vehicle is converted to run LPG from when first registered then wouldn't LPG/Petrol be classed as Dual Fuel and get some sort of reduction??

I have a manual, and it's around 22mpg around town, and 32-4 on the motorway. I would like to know how BMW got their figures.

Speaking for myself I think I know what the problem is - the catalogue says something about being measured under the ECE driving cycle, one third Urban and two thirds Extra-Urban, 90% full of fuel, one driver weighing 68KG and 7KG for luggage.

Obviously they've been keeping the driver off the wiener schnitzel then.... being polite, I can only assume the rest of you are driving around with your windows open...

Well...it seems you can get a grant for the actual conversions

Quote:
Powershift will subsidise your conversion costs on a scale from 25% to 75%
and as far as BIK taxation (for company cars) goes, it seems that you previously got a 1% reduction from the band that the car would be in based on its stated emissions....however it seems that was dropped for the 2006-7 tax year.....obviously too green....

.....thats as far as my research has got.....

I had an e46 325i Auto for what it's worth and would get 22 in town up to 30 out and about. Has the auto box improved much on the e9x? I hated the steptronic in the e46 and grew to loathe it - ruined a great engine.

I'm given to understand that the latest iteration is much better but I didn't try one.

I,am with redE93cab my 325i manual gets approx 24 round town best 26 on a commute to work (mix of town and duel carriageway). A/cond always set to auto and even when trying to drive efficiently the figures don't get any better even with A/cond off. I have found the OBC to be out compared to the top up method by a mile per gallon on the low side.

Maybe I'm lucky living in the country, but 31-33 is still about right for me. I'm no slouch (I used to race karts) but I do a lot of cruise control on the motorways. And I took the in-laws out in it on Saturday which really pushed the figures up
