Something to warm the heart............

BBC Look North this evening.

No mention of an increase in accidents or indeed how they know for a fact that motorists have increased their speed.

None of us I dare say, condone speeding in built up areas but as we know, many speed cameras are placed on unnecessary stretches of our roads.

I share many of the sentiments but I don't bother about them in 30 limits. In most cases, they serve to keep the motorist honest when it comes to 30 zones.

It's on de-restricted roads that I hate them!

Local BBC news here in the South West were reporting yesterday an increase of road deaths in the last month, many due to speeding! Showed crashed cars impounded by Police and a couple of sad stories of 'victims'.

I read it as they don't really know. They briefly mention speed, drink and drugs. I agree though with the statement of drivers being too casual on the road nowadays. Some argue that people concentrate better if driving more quickly, turn down the music, the heating and actually remember that they are driving a car!

Lincolnshire has many fatalities every year (some of the highest in the UK)and yet so far they haven't even mentioned an increase in accidents and tonights report would have been their opportunity to do so.

'Not necessarily speed that kills, but the poor standards of driving of the average motorist' to quote an experienced motorway police driver.

Its was the TV news that was speaking of speeding as a key factor.

My opinion on speed

The only safe speed is 0mph!

Speed is a contributory factor in most accidents. You need to be moving to hit something!

Speed doesn't kill, its hitting the solid object that kills you!

Speeding doesn't cause accidents, shit driving causes accidents, speed cameras don't capture shit driving!

The last year they have figures, about 3,000 people died in accidents involving cars and other vehicles (excluding pedestrians).

Of those deaths, 12% occurred where exceeding the speed limit was at least a contributory factor (Note, not the ONLY factor).

That means that 88% of deaths (some 2,640) occurred where no one was exceeding the speed limit.

So the only thing the authorities try to curb is exceeding the speed limit ('cos inappropriate speed would be too hard for the poor dears) and the only thing the PC mob and their fellow travellers rant on about - is the 12% whilst 88% of deaths continue without any of these sycophants doing one damn thing about it.

Deaths have come down over the last years but it has hee-haw to do with these twankers but all to do with cars being better built with much better protection built in.
