Running 19"s in Denver, whats the ride like
I'm considering putting 19's on for the summer, but I'm rather hesitant given road conditions around town. How severe do people find the ride around town compared to running the stock 18 runflats? How drastically do I increase my risk of bending a rim?
Also, knowing that it's winter this may be next to impossible but if anyone is currently running a set I'd love to take a rid with you to get a feel. Trade you a 12 pack or a couple of drinks at your bar of choice. |

Sid (E92_SID) has 19" m6 wheels on his 335. PM him he may be able to help you out now that the streets are cleared up.

Im running stock 19's (style 230) for my summers. Ran fine, but I ditched the runflats for some A/S rubber that I could run in April/October and feel safe if it snowed. They are probably NO worse then teh 18's. My ride got a *little* smoother because my sidewall went to 45 on my winter 17's as compared to 35/30.
I gave up a LOT of turn in response fromRFT to non RFT. I say go for it...its not bad at all, you wont notice. And they look soooooo much better. |

I felt the exact same thing as Dackz when ditching the stock 18" RFTs for non-RFT 19s. The ride is a bit smoother, even with a shorter sidewall....however the turn in response on the non-RFTs is noticeably less than with the RFTs.
And I did hit a pothole and take a good chunk out of a wheel last year...but I love the way they look. Its the risk you take, but I also did the same thing even with the 18s. Oh and I have VMR VB3's (hyperblack) 19x8.5" F, 19x10" R wheels with 245/35R19 F, 275/30R19 rear Falken FK-452 rubber. |

I do rub *slightly* when under full lock on the fender lining on the fronts with the 245's...but it doesn't rub on the fender itself. Honestly I could probably mess with the fender lining a bit and it would eliminate all rubbing. I am not dropped. The 235/275 combo will promote more understeer than the 245/275 combo, which is something this car does not need. I would either stick with 235/265, or go with 245/275. |

Im probably goign to stick with 235/265, its just a bitch finding UHP/AS tires in that size. I dont want to be caught in April/October with summers on in my DD, but so far so good on my toyo proxes 4, they handled a couple inches of snow well and are quite grippy when its warm out too. |

Yeah I have 19in M6 reps and I love them! I have never regretted them for a second! I think that they look huge and awesome. I get comments on them all the time and they really make the car look more custom and special. It is totally worth it. The ride difference is not that noticeable to me nor do I really care since the difference is so minimal. Besides, I know I didnt buy my car because of the amazing comfort; I bought it for the thrill and looks! Ultimate driving machine, not comfort machine lol. I have put 30k on them in the 2 years now that I have had them and I did have to have one repaired for being bent and the others repaired for some curb rash but that was all done in the first 6 mos when I was learning how to drive on them.

I spent the summer of 2007 in Denver and the Springs no issues.

You run the risk of damaging your wheels no matter what size you have here (16's and larger usually unless you have a low rider) in colorado. My stock 17's on my trans am and my 330Ci both got trashed by the previous owners running over pot holes and such. The more sidewall you have, the smoother the ride is going to be. A lot also has to do with your suspension stiffness.
My opinion, if you've got the knack for avoiding road obstacles and holes, go for what looks good. If your track record for running over these sorts of things isn't so good, compromise a bit and don't go for the nice stuff unless your avoidance skills and pocket book can handle it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I ended up picking up a set of 18"csl reps. I've had good luck with the stock 18"s so I figured why roll the dice on the 19"s. That being said, they do look incredible on the car.

A lot has to do with the tire you run. I run a 265/35R19 so I am prone to wheel damage if I hit a pot hole. I've ran a 40 series tire on 18's before without any problems or bent wheels. Just make sure you ain't driving around on rubber band tires and try to aviod bad streets.

Also helps to not stretch your tires on the wheel, so that the rubber stick beyond the lip of the wheel and provides some extra protection...that is the problem with my rears, the lip has zero protection.

Am I the only one who thinks our roads aren't that bad? Sure there are potholes that pop up in the winter, but the highways and major roads are usually fixed pretty quick, and the roads are just fine in the summer months. I can't remember the last time I hit a bad pothole.
