FIXED:- 2006 330D exhaust rattle
Had a rattle from the exhaust tailpipe/tailbox area at idle - sounded horrible!
Decided to have a look - simply banging the tailpipes with your fist would bring the rattle on. Upon pulling the trims off slightly, I saw this - hey presto! The trims were full of small roadstones, grit and tar which were resonating and causing the rattle at idle. Simply removing the trims (pull hard!) and a decent cleanup with wire wool and some solvent to dissolve the tar, they're like new! and the end result - 10 minutes work!

Ha! In the last image, you can just see the lump of wood I had to drive both wheels onto to get enough clearance to get my trolley jack in!!

Just pulled mine off Dr Dave, had quite a bit of tar and gravel that had collected around the rim. Gave it a good clean and polish, looking like new now.
Think I will have a go at the exhausts tomorrow as well. |

Just done a search on 330d exhaust rattle as I hear a tinny rattle sound when standing near the back of the car, and found this thread.
Do the pipes pull off easily? Does the car need to be jacked up or can it be done standing? Sorry for questions on an old thread, but better than starting a new one! |

It can all be done on the floor - if the tips haven't been off since new I would think a gentle tap with a small hammer will have them off. Mine pull off fairly easily now as I've removed them twice to get rid of the small stones.
